Marketplace itself has been slow recently, but it usually won't time out completely.  You may have a slow Internet connection as well.  If you're on wireless, I suggest getting off of it now.  Then check your Statistics Bar (CTRL - Shift - 1) to see what your value of Ping Sim is.  For smooth operation, it should be less than 150ms --- the lower, the better.  If it's much higher, it's taking your computer too long to get data to SL's servers  Take a look at Nalates's blog here to see what you can do about it >>> http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/

DING DING DING!  We have a WINNER!

The Marketplace is chock full of bugs, both old and new.  If at all possible, use an in world store to make your purchases.

What Lindal said: shop in-world.

In-world shopping problems:

  • Teleport problems if your broadband is weak
  • Search doesn't work

Marketplace shopping problems:

  • Item availability is unreliable
  • Items listings are mixed up
  • Slow-loading pages
  • Search doesn't work
  • Shopping cart doesn't work
  • Delivery failures
  • Payment failures

In other words - it can be hard to find what you're looking for in-world.  On the market place it's hard for the merchants to list things, it's hard to find anything that is there, you don't know if what you're looking at is what you'll get, if you get anything at all and if you do the merchant might not get paid.  And it's in static 2d, in this interactive 3d world.

I only use the marketplace to 'shop' for free things so I don't care when it all goes wrong.
