Lots of merchants don't check in to SL every day, and let their store run more or less on autopilot.

On the other hand, if it's a popular store and they do a lot of business, they might not be getting your IMs.  Messages are "capped" after a certain number, and subsequent messages simply don't get through.  Try sending them a notecard instead.
