All of which begs an important question: "What do you have to sell?"  If you are an experienced designer, artist, animator, scripter, 3D modeler, or builder and know enough about Second Life's culture, economics, permission system, and building tools, you'll be able to start putting things into a Marketplace store right away.  Otherwise, it makes sense to get some practice creating things for yourself first.

READ ROLIG'S LAST PARAGRAPH!  Don't even think about making a store and selling stuff until you have something worth selling!

You can do this fairly easily by buying untextured Mesh clothing and then applying pleasing textures to it and selling the result.  However, you have to remember that a lot of other people are doing the exact same thing.  It's not hard to find six or ten stores selling the same dress, just with different textures!  You will do better in the long run if you can create completely original products from the ground up...but this does take time and effort.

There are classes and tutorials on using the Second Life build tools in world.  There are video and text tutorials on using Blender and Photoshop or GIMP.  Start learning these tools and one day you, too, may be a successful Second Life creator and merchant.
