okay look, i have been unable to play this game for freaking months. i just went out and bought a new pc (new to me, its referb) it has win 10. i know stupid me, but i thought since it was a fresh version of win 10 and not an upgrade it would be better. I have literally tried everything suggested. my graphics driver is 100% up to date, according the both device manager as well as intel's utility driver thing. i just installed all updates, and restarted 4 times. i even went in under compatability mode and tried win 8-xp to no avail. there MUST be something i can do. my pc exceed the suggested list under system requirements. I'm going mad. I just wanna see my friends yo!

here are my specs.  intel core 2 duo cpu, win 10 pro, 64 bit operating system, 4 GB ram, with nothing else installed but the sims 4 while i try not to strangle someone.

Need more info.  What do you mean you can't play?  Can you log in?  If you can, what is wrong exactly?   If you get any mesages what exactly do they say?

It would also be helpful to HELP>ABOUT and copy and paste what you see there in  your post.  You don't have to log in to do this, just launch your viewer.

it's not likely it's the W10, but it's W10 on a machine thats hardly capable of running it...

as others told/asked, give some more info about the system... graphics, psu

If you have a intel hd 2000/3000 you have to go back to your seller, he sold you something useless... these graphics will "work"  on your system, but are not supported anymore. SL will not run on it.

Can you get a dxdiag report from the affected system.

  • Right click the windows start button & choose "Run".
  • In the text box, type in dxdiag.exe then click OK.
  • Wait for the dxdiag window to open and the green progess bar to finish.
  • Click the "Save all information" button & save the dxdiag report as a text file.

Upload the dxdiag.txt to dropbox/google drive or similar or paste the text from the report onto pastebin or into a comment here.

also these are my full specs according to the site i purchased from. it came with win 10 pro already installed.

https://gyazo.com/147f5d176a9fccd122b8bb94c3a0c61f

and i'm getting the same error as everyone else, my drivers need updating. except they don't. also when i try and run the driver update tool from intel, it fails every time. i have tried literally every viewer right down to imprudence and all the old ones, clear up to the offical viewer. none of them work. it runs skyrim on ultra with little lag, imvu and sims 4 without issue. i really dont get it. any help is appreciated.

Ugh, bad news here I'm afraid.

That system has Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family graphics.

That card will not run *any* Second Life viewer with Windows 10. There are no suitable graphics drivers available that will work.

The only option is to install Windows 7 on it.  I'm not 100% sure if Windows 8.1 will work but it may do.

Even if you installed Windows 7 so you could login to SL, performance will be absolutely terrible with that card. You will also not be able to enabled Basic Shaders on that system.

My old laptop has the same processor/graphics as this (Windows 7) & believe me, it's a truely painful experience trying to run an SL viewer on it.

If you bought this system specifically for SL and you can still return it & get a refund, I'd do that.

didn't  it for sl, i bought it for school. I'm gathering information for December when I am able to purchase another pc and give this one to my bf. So there's simply no way it'll ever run sl? at least now I know so i can stop obsessing over a fix. now to spend the next 4 months waiting on another loan disbursement.

No, not on Windows 10.

The only possible way to make it work on Windows 10 is to find some 3rd party "hacked" drivers for your card. This may not work either. If it works you can expect problems with SL viewers - the driver is likely to be very crashy, which will crash the viewer &/or you will see graphical glitches.

Installing such drivers may also cause the whole system to be unstable & may result in needing to reformat & reinstall Windows on that system.

I really don't recommend even trying to do that.

There's a couple of threads here discussing use of such 3rd party drivers if you are interested. Just to stress again, I wouldn't try this.

Just a general note on Win10.  It may or may not help if it is that graphics card issue.

You can get Win10 to run MUCH like Win7 by turning off all the defaults. There are TONS of things running in the background in Win10 UNLESS you opt out. I did this for security reasons as Win10 is kinda like the NSA in that reguard *wink* and while I have nothing to hide, I just don't like the idea.

You can look up Win10 Security settings in Google and you will find a big list  of things you can turn off. I actually turned off everything but the microphone and I am a very happy camper.

Again if it is an issue with the card and SL that is one thing. If it is an issue with incompatibility with Win10 "default" software settings -- then turning things off might get you inworld.

So you may want to try that; it is easy enough to turn things back on if it want. And you will likely be better off with a 1.23 style viewer like Singularity as that takes less power than hefty Firestorm or even the Linden viewer.

Good luck.

I gather that at one point you had a PC that ran SL, but this new one doesn't.

I wonder if maybe you happen to have a reasonably capable Android device that you could run Lumiya on, and just blow-off the PC altogether for now? Lumiya is by no means a fully functional SL viewer for, like, building or anything, but it supports SL social interaction with some graphics.

  • 2 weeks later...

xTH4Tx0N3xG1RLx wrote:

both said it exceeds recommended levels....am i to believe they are wrong?

recommended is in the meaning of lowest levels that will be able to run SL, don't expect miracles from it.

If you really want a good experience in SL with a pc you need at least a high mid range or high range machine.

If you want a really nice pc for SL the graphics card alone will be already  over 300/400/500 usd.

For laptops you will be in the 900 USD and up range ... for a pc 700 and up...

Of course you can go cheaper... but results will do as the price.... going down...

Laptops (and pc) need a stand alone mid/heigh end graphics card, onboards will never get the same results.

It's by this that the whole system is mostly a lot more than you reallly need for daily use, but SL loves to use a lot of machine resources.

i did not simply say no. i corrected the poster on what recommended and required are. they stated that the recommended levels are the lowest, but in fact they are not. required means the minimum it takes to run sl. the recommended is what it takes to run it the best, i may not know much, but of this i am certain.

You'd be right with just about any other platform. Required is the basics, Recommended is the likely point for acceptable stability (better than required, but not the best). You'll probably get 20-25FPS, but you could do better than this with an even higher spec PC.

Unfortunately Second Life, given that all data needs to come down your network link (causing a high probability of bottlenecks)... there's no such thing as "best" - you'll never get 100% performance out of Second Life, even if you have the flashiest million-dollar PC available it's still relying on your network being super-duper-crazy-fast, and that's just not a practical guarantee for 90% of Internet users.

I think that's what Alwin was alluding to. He could've definitely communicated it better.
