getting DEP (Data Execution Prevention) crashes in some sims

there are two popular sims (Tecs and some other) where i can only exist for between 1 and 5 mins before the viewer crashes stating that its due to 'Data Execution Prevention'.

Is that something i can stop? .. i thought the latest update might have solved it .. but no bananas.

From what ive read about this DEP thing.. if i get the error , then surely everyone should be getting it? (which obviously isnt the case)

Im on a vista machine btw that generally runs SL quite well.

DEP is a security feature that prevents against program errors and malicious code to inject over buffer overflow for example.

Any special security software running? If you have EMET running then try to exclude the viewer. Check for Viruses/Trojans. Check RAM. Check Harddisk. Download and install the viewer again.

thanks for the advice.. ill go throught that list in the next day or two 

(I have no on board security checking programs running .. only what is built in with Vista)

I tried to exclude the SL viewer, but it wouldn't let me. It says it has to be protected by DEP.

Having the same problem as you...did you manage to sort this problem out? Any help much appreciated.

Netso, which version of Wndows are you using? Is it Windows Vista?
