Hi Lindens,

Please make a parcel feature where we can select to disable gestures the same way scripts and privacy can be toggled.

It is really frustrating to have people gesture spam events. It is very disruptive to conversations but at the same time you do not want to kick / ban them from the parcel as it tends to create drama and you don't want less avatars and L$.

Thank you in anticipation,

Jen

Ok - How? You can come up a way to distinguish av generated chat from gesture generated? Do please tell =^^= as you would make a fortune.

And the privacy tabs are for - privacy. Inside which areas you decide your own rules - its why you set them yes? Which may be another l$ area but - well, privacy.

As a work around - advertise as gesture == insta kick - might be surprised at the popularity. But then again expecting a tech solution to a 'social' issue is always the easy way.

Good luck.

Server sends the client a "Prevent the running of gestures" message.

Anything that refers to a gesture from there will get an error, so people won't be able to use them via huds.

Since the parcel is doing it then land permissions and rezzed items can gesture.

Old viewers would circumvent this for a time but the second phase would be a "do you have a gesture disabling script built in?" when the client tries to connect. If not then it fails with an error to that effect.

Alternatively, gestures are also a called script that can be enabled / disabled. So they are identified as an item. Thus the server probably stores them in a seperate database that is called. Much like how your cloths might not be accessible but you are in world and objects rezz around you. So too could gestures be distabled with "Are they trying to access this gesture in a parcel where it is banned? If yes then stop the query and return an error."

That is a completely server side solution to enforce this.

You want LL to remove gestures from the viewer and make a server side gesture version? LOL - good joke.

There is already a server side solution. A hud with a script.
You think you can block scripts? No you can't. Every scripter can make hud-scripts work in no script zones.

You think I need the viewer's gesture option to spam text? Nope, I can easily do that with software I have already installed on the system.

You better find another solution than asking for a new SL.

Gestures would have to be given their own chat type for the suggestion to work, but this could be circumvented by existing illegal tpv's.

Alternatively, parcels could be given a setting that blocks chat on the parcel and a setting that blocks chat originating from other parcels from being seen. These could be setup at the public and/or group owner level like rezzing, object entry, scripting.

Currently, parcel privacy and bans result in the same effects, but at the cost of no visibility or no access.

Theres also the bug https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-7790 that allows attached sounds on parcels to play despite the parcel not allowing sounds.

Theres also a request for a parcel setting to block shouting at the public and group level with https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-3854 along with resource control.

Sadly, we may have to wait for project Sansar with its prestige-for-privilege system to come first before we get access to better land controls.

I have known clubs that ban the use of getures and it works.  Just be sure to tell people the rule.  If you have someone that uses them, warn them, if they ignore the warning boot them.  Chances are even if it were possible to block gestures by parcel, people that want to use them aren't going to come anyway, so you have lost nothing.

Of course staff can't use them either.  They'll have to type.

Linden's don't routinely read the forum.  You would be much better off putting your idea in the Suggestion page.

Are you talking about gesture sounds or the text?

You can kill the sounds by unchecking the Avatar sounds box..
