My Custom Skinned Mesh is invisible (rendering but completly transparent)

Hello! This is my first time trying to import a skinned mesh. I've tried several different ways to get the mesh ingame but every time it is completly transparent for some reason.

It's clearly there, but when it's not selected with the editor and highlighted, it won't show at all. I'm using the default texture and the transparancy is set to 0%.

I've tried both 3ds max 2009 with the 2011 FBX exporter and 3ds max 2013 with the 2013 FBX exporter (latest)  but both of them give me the same results. The materials in 3ds max have several material ids and they're all assigned and uv'd properly.

What doesn't make sense is the model shows up properly if i don't import with the skin and joints, so I have to assume the issue is with the skin? Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Thank you!
