Hello Tralan :)

It's likely a case of the origin of the object being left outside its geometric shape.

In SL you can simply lower the table along the Z axis. The correct way is to fix it in Blender:

While in Object mode, go to Object-->Transform--->Origin to Geometry. I hope that helps.

Not changed as far as I know. More likely this is accidental inclusion of some extra geometry, that may be invisible if it's facing the wrong way? A careful inspection should reveal that if it's there.

Deriv - Yes. It can get very confusing with object origins wandering all over the place disconnected from their objects!
