Hellos!

I've been working on a mesh house for my friend and I. I've almost finished modeling it but I've gotten stuck..

I'm not sure how I should "structure" the mesh. I have searched around and can't seem to find much information on this. Basically, I'd like to know how most of you, when creating houses, separate separate the finished house into meshes, how you organize them. (roofs = 1 mesh object, walls another or each part as its own object, etc.)

I'd also like to know how you go about texturing or UV mapping your parts. I'm tempted to just use the planar texture options in-world because I don't want to go through the trouble of UV mapping things I might change later. :S

Thanks for any help!

I tend to plan it from the outset, not after the object is already done.

My usual goal: Maximize the outside distance visibility, skimp on inside LODs. Outside parts are separate meshes from the inside parts (with all LODs custom made). Inside I tend to only do high LOD and just an "impostor" box for all lower LODs to provide some texture visible through windows from the outside.

The overall cutting depends on how modular the design is supposed to be in the end and how many textures I need on each piece.

Thank you Jenni!

This is my first real mesh project although this house is the 3rd I've modeled so far. (I'm quite indecisive.) So I've learned from mistakes I made in the previous models. I was smart enough to make this house in parts so it shouldn't be too hard now to group those parts up the way you suggested. (Inside vs Outside)
