Blender Malfunction

This is what Blender repeatedly does on my iMac:

Suddenly I cannot get out of Edit, moving the mouse just rotates/spins around the selection. I cannot get out of Blender either. I have to use the Escape keys so I can force quit Blender.  I am on the latest version but it did this on previous versions too.

Any clue?

Ive had some weird experiences like this as well. but so far cant figure out how Im getting stuck. Im hoping this new addon Im using will make things easier. its called Blender Sensei.  You could also try asking at blenderartists.org. I just discovered that site thanks to another user. If you find the answer please post it here even if it seems silly. Im convinced I must be doing something wrong but I cant figure out what it is.

also, if you post a pic of your screen as it is when it starts doing this it might help some blender expert to see if there is something you might have accidentally clicked on that caused the problem.

Yes I think I should ask over there. I can't take a screenshot or do anything else when my cursor is stuck like that tho. Neither keyboard or mouse can do anything except force quit.
