Applying a mirror modifier to a rigged mesh

I made a shirt using avastar... actually, I just made the left side of it, and the right side is still mirrored by a mirror modifier. 

I managed to weight all the vertices on the left side, as I wanted and the left side reacts quite nicely to the armature poses. 

 

Now I wanted to apply the mirror modifyer, and have the right side also reacting to the bones on the right side. 

Firstly, Blender wants me to delete the shape keys... is this ok?

 

But my mayor problem is: How do I get the right side of the shirt to react to the right bones? What happens is this:

The right side is bound to the left bones and moves in the oposit direction than the left mesh :/

 

Can someone please tell me, what I'm missing?
