Any Fix for Normal Map Compression?

I've not run into this problem before and I am not sure why. The normal map for my mesh seems to have extra compression than the usual. Is there any fix for the compression?

In the example below the sides of the mesh should be smooth like the top. Due to compression the normal map has turned out just the slightest bit rough. Are there any fixes or possiblities to make the normal map at all smoother? Thanks for any suggestions.

The normal map is currently a 1024x1024 jpg.

A few weeks ago I was checking for the effects of image upload compression. I noticed, using the default viewer, that the check box to enable lossless compression was greyed out and not an option. Trying the same thing using Firestorm, I was able to check the box.

When using materials, normal map compression noise can affect the use of specular highlights.
