Check the Transaction History on your own dashboard at secondlife.com >>> Account to see where the L$ really went.  It is unfortunately easy to give money to the wrong person if you are in a crowd and not being careful, or if you haven't used the PAY option to give money directly.  If it turns out that you gave the money to someone else, you might get it back if you ask the right way.  Otherwise, it's lost.
