Sure.

The most lucrative job is creating. If you have any skill at that, or wish to develop the skill, you can make a decent amount of money once you get very good (if you're not, already) and people start noticing your work.

Outside of that, the demand for unskilled labor isn't very high. DJ'ing can be moderately lucrative, or not, depending again on your skill and on your ability to create relationships with club owners.

No matter what you do, you probably won't make what you think you're worth, so let go of the idea of "minimum wage" or anything like that, because you won't get it inworld. Search the classifieds using inworld search, or check out this area of the forums - it's the Inworld Employment section.

In addition to Ariel's excellent advice, you should know that you don't need to buy L$ with a credit card.  You may use either a verified PayPal account or Skrill account..  The only stipulation there is that if you verify the account with a bank account instead of a credit card, you must be sure to maintain a USD balance in the PayPal or Skrill account.  Banks cannot transfer cash fast enough to satisfy the demand of Internet purchases in places like SL.

BTW, it will be important to have a PayPal or Skrill account if you ever expect to take cash out of SL, since there is no other way to do it.  Also, unless you have a payment method on file, you will not be able to upload mesh models or receive L$ payouts in some Linden Lab games like PaleoQuest and Horizons, and you may find that some landowners will block you from entering their land.
