it's pretty easy to find :

You may use the following payment methods with Second Life:

  • Visa
  • American Express
  • MasterCard
  • Delta Online (non-U.S. Residents only)
  • JCB
  • Diners Club
  • Discover (U.S. Residents only)
  • Visa Electron (non-U.S. Residents only)
  • PayPal
  • Skrill

if you insist on prepaid you have no other choice than also set up a verified paypal/skrill account and load your card there.

I VASTLY prefer using a pre paid card as it limits my liability in the event of a hack.

The lab removed prepaid as an option a very long time ago. Some debit cards still work if they are bank linked.

With the amount of money they deal in, and with how long they have done it the Lab's website is unlikely to be hacked, so if you are worried about hacking it will be of your account. A weak password, a shared computer with saved credentials, accidentally clicking a phishing link are all valid hacks.

You could create an alt, buy lindens on them from a bank linked card, and remove the bank linked card details when not in use. Make your alt a suitably strong password and only use it for buying lindens.

That will negate your account risk.

Linden Lab no longer accepts prepaid cards.

Here is what I do to limit my liability.

I have a PayPal account.  It's verified by being linked to a real life bank account.  I only keep a few hundred $ in that bank account.  I am also careful to transfer money from the bank to PayPal to be sure there is enough money in my PayPal balance to cover my Second Life purchases/bills.
