Hi Lorena,

It's not the number of clubs that's important, it's the number of avatars. Linden Lab publishes the following recommendations for avatar limits to avoid bogging down or crashing a sim...

Maximum number of agents
Full region: 100 (Typically set to 40 on mainland, 55 on Linden Homes regions, but this does vary. Some meeting areas have this set to 60 and higher.) Recent server performance improvements make regions with 60 agents in them perform quite well.

Homestead: 20
Openspace: 10

The actual performance of a sim under those loads will be highly variable, depending on the rendering complexity of the avatars and the complexity of the surroundings.

And of course, locating a club right next to another club is likely to generate some bad feelings somewhere. The clubs that were there first will feel as though the newcomer is trying to capitalize on the popularity of the sim to siphon off customers.

next to the visitors a sim can handle you have to look where the sim is.

At mainland there are hardly rules, so you can start one everywhere you want, but it's wise to keep an eye on the traffic, so you won't shut out other people who live on the same sim, or use too many sim resources so you lag the sim down.

At private estate sims it's a different story,... there the owner decides how many ánd íf you are allowed to run a club.

Residental sims will for sure not allow it. Most others mostly only one.

At the mainland Linden Homes it's totally forbidden.

The posters above told you what you need to know.  The silly answer is that the smallest lot size on a Region is 4x4 = 16 square meters.  You can, therefore, have 256x256 / 16 = 4096 individual plots on a Region each large enough to stand on.  But, as already explained, the Regions limit on the number of avatars is what really matters.
