First Time User...Can't Log In!

I'm a new user and I can't log in it keeps "requesting region capabilities" with no luck. I tried resetting my Firewall as instructed but it didn't change anything. Please Advise?

Region "capabilities" are the set of authorizations that the servers require so that they can connect your viewer to the databases that handle your inventory, your friends list, your group lists, and many other personal files.  The servers collect those capabilities when you log in and then pass them from one region to another as you travel in SL, giving you access to the databases wherever you are.  Until you have those capabilities, you are not fully logged in.

Usually, a firewall will block everything, not just a few things.  Same with an antivirus program.  It's a good idea to create exceptions for your SL viewer in both of those programs anyway, but that's not the problem now.  Your problem is an unreliable connection. 

Try first just rebooting your modem and router.  Unplug both from the power for a few minutes while you make a cup of coffee.  Then plug them back in and restart your computer.  That may solve things.  If not, be very sure that you are not using a wireless Internet connection  (See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Wifi-and-satellite-connections/ta-p/1296823) .  Next, it might be necessary to amend the list of DNS server IP addresses in your machine instead of relying on whatever your ISP provided.  If so, see http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/dns_fail  .  It looks complicated, but it's really not rocket science.  Many people find that they run much better with the Google DNS servers.  If none of those work, come back and let us know.
