Can't go anywhere

I was not taken to Welcome Island when I logged in.  Also, I can't go anywhere.  I click on "visit" and it just sits there.  I'd love to get started!

It sounds as if you are trying to log in to SL from a web site instead of downloading and installing a viewer.  It is possible to log in from a web site, but not until you have a viewer and then gone to some trouble to install a plugin to tell your browser how to route web site clicks to it.  Most people never do that.
