Whats the current status on Group Speech in SL

Is it currently feasible to use built in speech in conferences and larger discussions? How many can attend a conference and have capable speech working? Would it be necessary to use external software?

Always worked for me when teaching, and seems to work well even at large discussion events. No idea about group chat though... the largest I've ever tried it was smaller than the largest discussion (about 60 people there).
