Some
Phil Deakins
demonstrated that
SL meter does not always = RL meter

Yay!  :matte-motes-big-grin: :smileyhappy:

Will I get into the history books with this remarkable achievement? :smileywink: :smileytongue:

Perfect Phil!  I hope so!

Peace!

Yes Phil, of course you will.  Congratulations!  :matte-motes-big-grin:

With statement something like:

"Phil was a very nice gentleman, investigating soul he was.  He did everything he could think of, but unfortunately his experiments were not scientifically accurate.  Nevertherless the coming generations will remember his efforts with great admiration and amazement."

Phil, along with this achievement, also offered up the final proof that OJ didn't do it.

2-13-2014    Linden Research shutters its doors after a massive exodus of residents from Second Life in the wake of Phil Deakins proof a year earlier that SL meters ≠ RL meters. That proof uncorks a cascade of revelations which culminate in the realization that the entirety of SL has approximately no basis in reality.

2-13-2017    Responding to complaints by local businesses over the dilapidated appearance of the long abandoned Linden Research offices, city inspectors discover the interior of the structure filled with empty, desicated watermelon hulls surrounding the building's only chair.

Some Phil Deakins and some Coby Foden finally reached mutual agreement about how dimensions work in Second Life. :matte-motes-big-grin:
http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Avatar-sizes/m-p/1889353#M94725

This agreement is a big welcome news to the whole community. :smileyhappy:

Now the vision what Madelaine McMasters had will not come to pass.
http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/What-happened-in-History-on-this-date/m-p/1887877#M94641

Phew...

Some highlights related to the mutual agreement:

1. If avatar's height is measured by prim, then the avatar's size related to furniture looks right.
2. Thus for example: if one makes RL sized furniture and RL sized avatar -measured by prim, all will look perfect.

3. If one assumes that the Appearance editor box shows the avatar's true mesh height and if one uses that height
info in adjusting the avatar, then the avatar will look too big compared to the furniture.
4. Linden Lab made big error by showing Avatar Agent Height in the appearance editor instead of the true mesh height.
Not knowing the truth, many uses are tricked to believe that the "Height" in appearance editor is the mesh height.

Linden Lab should make a public apology to the community, and correct the height info in the viewer ASAP. :smileywink:

It was today February 15, 2013.  Early in the morning Russian time.

"A meteorite shot across the sky and exploded over central Russia on Friday [February 15, 2013] , sending fireballs crashing to Earth, shattering windows and damaging buildings."

"People heading to work in Chelyabinsk heard what sounded like an explosion, saw a bright light and then felt a shockwave according to a Reuters correspondent in the industrial city 1,500 km (950 miles) east of Moscow."

"A fireball blazed across the horizon, leaving a long white trail in its wake which could be seen as far as 200 km (125 miles) away in Yekaterinburg. Car alarms went off, windows shattered and mobile phone networks were interrupted."

It was not 2012 DA14, which is still being tracked and will make its closest approach at 2:25PM EST today. I don't think the Satka meteorite, which was very small in comparison to 2012 DA14 is at all related, but I'm no expert. It appears that the meteorite broke up before impact, so the reported damage was due to the "sonic boom" made as it passed through the atmosphere. If you mix broken windows with startled people, you'll get injuries.

ETA: As I recall, the Tunguska meteorite of 1908 also never hit the ground. The shock waves from that "near miss" knocked down hundreds of square miles of trees.
