Chaser Zaks
Not sure if this has been posted before, but I just want to put this out here and know once and for all if I am the only one.Does anyone else hear the imp fireball sound when teleporting in SL, or the teleport sound from SL when a imp throws a fireball in Doom? This is the imp fireball sound for those wondering: http://felix.softhyena.com/doom_dsfirsht.wav or the imp http://felix.softhyena.com/doom_imp.gif (can't link directly, Lithium makes it REALLY GRAINY for some reason)Teleport sound for comparison http://felix.softhyena.com/secondlife_teleport.oggCompairing it in audacity, it appears to be the same sound(Except Doom's is cropped), but due to the playback rate of doom, it's impossible to tell if they truely are the same sounds(11025hz). Codex Alpha
Take both files and overlay them on top of each other (as I did in FL Studio); Yes, it's the same base file. Many of Doom's sounds are from Sound Ideas' General series sound effects library. - https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Sound Doom producers may have removed the padding from the original effects file in order to make them smaller, but create a noticeable 'click' or 'pop' sound because their ends have been chopped off... Clearly by the time LL decided to use it, they could afford to play the sample in it's entirety. General Sound Effects Collections are an important resource for post production and game building – and Sound Ideas offers the best options in the audio industry. Sound Ideas Signature Collection - The General Series 6000 Sound Effects Library If I didn't make my own sounds on my own, I would purchase a library of sounds, and edit it to my liking (for timbre, tone, sample rate, etc) , or mix it with other sounds to create unique combinations. Radium Soup
If you listen carefully in games, news, tv programs and cheaper movies, quite a lot of sound effects are public domain or recycled.
