Does anyone know where I can get a cheap lawyer for this? Please let me know. I have know idea who to contact for legal advice on second life skills games.

thank you

Paislee, if you don't have a personal attorney that can do that then you are probably going to be looking for an attorney that is practicing internet law. Best would be to start looking local (assuming you are in the USA) to you that practices that kind of law to do the drafting of the document that you need. The lawyer also has to be USA based as well.

So let me get this straight....If you live in one the prohibited states you won't even be able to get onto a sim that is considered "gaming" Which means even if you don't play the games but work as a host then you are out of a job and can no longer make L's within the realm of SL without doing something else...Like stripping...hosting at a club..and/or dj'ing....At least that is my understanding of it. That those that currently work at gaming places and live in one of those states won't be allowed to get on the sim once it goes into a "gaming region" Correct me if I am wrong on this...Can see how this is going to hurt a lot of the regions that do gaming.

I already know of one place that has said they are going to shut their doors for good.

Anabella, that would be correct as I understand it based on the policy and information they have out. And it's really not SL's fault on that, but would rather lay the onus on the legislation and government of that prohibited state.

So basically when I move to TN .. I'm going to have to quit my SL job .. wonderful .. gives me a reason to cash out before I leave the state I live in now .. and not to come back to SL ever again...Congrats LL ..

Do you always blame companies for **bleep**ty governmental decisons, aka laws?

It's not ll's fault you live, or will, somewhere that prohibits you from doing what you clearly seem to think is the only thing you can do in sl.

There are more jobs in Second Life than just being a host or a DJ at a club.  No you don't have to be a stripper or do anything adult.  The Wanted and Inworld Employment forums exist for finding jobs.

Is that right? People were discounting an effect of traffic with the GSA, but it always had an effect, allbeit a small one. Is it known that they don't make any use of traffic in the current search system?

I meant to stick a question mark in there.  I hear varied opinions.  The traffic rules were written in 2009 and their have been no substansive updates.  And while I know you do SEO, your conclusions are still anecdotal because none of us can actually see inside the search engine.  So if they currently have an effect no one knows how much.

I do know that traffic played a part with the GSA for two reasons. One is that I could see exactly how it was taken acount of. Anyone could see it if they where to look. The other reason is that I knew the search team leader at that time who confirmed it. I've no idea about the current system though. That's why I asked.

This whole thing of "Gaming Skills" is not making no sense... I have read these forums on questions and answers about this issue however a Linden keeps refering us back to links. There is a lot of people that would like answers not just go read the forums or links. I totally understand about the casinos however
we want answers about
Sploders or
greedy
or contest boards.

You should read this thread. We already have the definitive answer from LL about Greedy. It's in this thread. Also, what the Greedy maker is going to do about it is in this thread. It's a very long thread so I'm not going to look for it but you can. LL's definitive answer is near the start.

ETA: In case you don't want to find LL's answer, the Greedy Greedy game, as it is right now, will be disallowed because it can be set to pay in and pay out. It doesn't make any difference if the game isn't used that way. By the end of the month, the creator will come up with a free update that doesn't pay out.

My only thinking on the new tighter regulations was for SL to become tax compliant, push out the smaller gaming sim owners by making the costs prohibitive leaving room for the bigger guys to come in.   Several casinos in Las Vegas offer online gambling.   Golden Nugget being one.   But maybe this isn't about this version of SL.   Maybe, this is to pave the way to allow this to happen on SL2?

You may be right. Try it all out in SL1 first, iron out any bugs etc., and then use it in SL2.

Hi Linden Lab.

I am speaking as a future applicant to become an operator.

Would you please consider to give us a longer deadline?

Actually we have only 3 weeks and agoust holidays are next door.

Creators too are in a total mess. Operators can not move on without creators. You are updating frequently FAQ but we still have so many doubts and questions.

Please also consider 2 different deadline for creators and operators.

My attorney will not produce any document till we have the availability of creators documentation.

Thank you in advance

I would ask for end of September about Creators and other 2 weeks for operators.

I live in UE and during Agoust is a desert here. Courts are closed and attorneys are in holiday. I do need a US attorney but I also need a UE sollicitor.

Thank you.

One previous poster just before yours mentioned start of September (1 more month), now you mention going even two months out from the original date set by Linden and on top of that a different date for operators. Be careful what you ask for. Consider there may be a valid business reason on their behalf why they have set a hard deadline for August 1st and not to make the applying process more difficult.

Also everyone keep in mind the August 1st deadline is when they are switching to the new policy and procedure, and not the very last day you can apply as an operator and/or creator. You can still do so after that date, only you may have to temporarily close your business starting August 1st until you and the games you have get approved, assuming you submit your application after that date.

Hi LL,

Coming back to my original question, and I'll have to agree with Gaia Gabe here, how would we know what games should we apply for if the approved game list is still empty? It's creators 1st, then operators. We can't have both the same deadline as it's nonsense. What is no game will pass your validation until Aug. 1st?

Thanks,

WDL Bayn

That shouldn't be much of an issue for operators,  I'd have thought.   I mean, presumably people have already taken steps to establish that it's lawful for them, where they're based, to operate their games of skill.

What did people tell their legal advisors when asking them for advice before first buying the games?    Didn't operators want to satisfy themselves they weren't breaking the law of their own country (in particular, by operating something that they considered a game of skill but their local regulations regarded as a gambling game)?

1) August 1, all games room closed if no creator validate
2) then we validate creator operator may file a request
3) My lawyer asked me a large sum of money if the creators are validated
4) avocal can not do anything before validiter creator because it requires the creator validiter

it is a vicious circle

I have a question on SL sports games in SL.  In the wagering policy

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Policy_Regarding_Wagering_in_Second_Life

It says it's a violation to "Rely on the outcome of real-life organized sporting events, " but say nothing about SL sporting events, so do SL sporting events fall under the SKill Gaming Policy?

Betting on a SL sports or any SL game as a spectator would be a game of chance or a wager, while

paying in to play a SL sports game as an active player would be a game of skill?

Would this apply the same to team vs individual games?

As long as the players are only paying in and getting a pay out based on indivdual games they play in, dose it matter if the games are organized events?

Hi Yingzi,

Skill gaming is defined as "
a game, implemented through an Inworld object: 1) whose outcome is determined by skill and is not contingent, in whole or in material part, upon chance; 2) requires or permits the payment of Linden Dollars to play; 3) provides a payout in Linden Dollars; and 4) is legally authorized by applicable United States and international law.
"

Thank you,

Hi

The mentioning of International law makes things complicated to the point of "legal impossibilities".

I am specially talking about your (LL) legal demands for the Operators ( 4.a.(iii)  in the application form)

"(iii) A Reasoned Legal Opinion that describes each Skill Game (including detailed operational descriptions) and provides a detailed analysis of its compliance with applicable United States and international law; "

This is a request for "Reasoned Legal Opinion" by attorneys specialized in international litigation.

These are highly specialized and costly demands.

Please have your legal adviser provide us with details on what will be needed in terms of international law.

Greetings from Greece
