Oh, and "don’t expect full backwards compatibility" and "it’s not even clear to us if we will preserve the original format in any shape or form" and "we’re focused more on high performance and high quality, and probably less about portability " and "direct content migration in all cases will not be possible".

So don't bust a gut making too much new stuff in the current SL, and think carefully about spending on new purchases.

Well, that completely puts the mockers on SL V2 for Adult participants.

Yeah, I wondered about that. Perhaps they forgot that....well, sex sells?

(sex in the Disney categorie as I am afraid this implies,  also means no nipples (from women), no bare butts, no innuendo, no skimpy clothing or anything that we in Europe consider natural and beautiful forms of art and expressing yourself in the nude, but.....lets cover the virtual eyes of everyone in case someone gets offended by omfg ....a nude, pixel, body and worse: showing sexuality exists!)

Ah, Ebbe also mentioned "The Lab does not view the new platform as a contiguous world with a unified geography” and "There will be segregation based on age / content" so he obviously intends to create ghettoes for grown-ups - as well as minors that don't even have to lie much - or perhaps he has never acquainted himself with the age verification debacles.

Oooh..so nothing changes much then!

Phew!

I think it's great.

Like it or not all those oiled up bimbo ads in search and giant mesh dongs on the marketplace is really tacky.

Definitely should not be first (or second, third, fourth fifth...) thing user see just because they are 18+ and have adult checked.

If it's going to be something which many people will use they will need to keep these tacky cheap sexual content at bay.

Some people here seem to like suggesting false information.

Ebbe said that there is no legal difference between 13 and 16 regarding SL and therefore the new platform will allow 13 year olds. This does not include any hint or statement about  adult content. It will probably be handeled like now: With different region and content rateings.

He also said “It could be years before you decide to use this new thing instead of SL”.  He said this in the context of how long it will be before there is much content in the new grid. I suspect he is right about this.  People may create accounts there when it first opens and visit and play in both worlds, but I believe it will be a long time before the average SL Joe migrates there permanently just because there won't be as many 'toys' there to play with.  That also assumes that the new grid is such an improvement of SL that people want to go there permanently.  It could very well be that the new grid will appeal to a whole different market than SL does and SLers won't like it.

Also, there isn't much stuff around from even five years ago that a lot of people use today.  It isn't like buying or creating something in SL is a long term investment or is expensive enough that it should be considered any type of investment.  People in RL think nothing of paying 1-2 US$ even as much as $10US for something that entertains them for less than a couple hours.

"Could" is a wonderful weasel word much loved by spinmasters such as Peter Gray, who could have written the script Ebbe seemed to have such a hard time reading, and could presage entirely meaningless words.

For example, he could have said "LL could keep SL open for twenty years", or "LL could close SL down on 1 June 2015" without committing himself or the Lab to anything at all, and without actually lying.

Statements like that are completely content free, and could be happily ignored as wasting potentially useful cognitive time.

{Although that could probably apply to 90% of what he said at VWBPE.]

PS People in SL think nothing of complaining about paying 1-2 L$ even as much as 10 L$ for something that doesn't get delivered or work as they expected or be replaced if they delete it or . . .

God, tell me about it.

Just last night I decided to treat myself to the company of a lovely, lascivious courtesan who charged 2500L per hour, which was all well and good as I had recently come into some extra cash. Unfortunately, I had neglected to dial down the speed of arousal on my equipment and within 10 minutes had inadvertently completed the deed. Despite my protestations, she was adamant that regardless of the time contracted for, her policy regarding the rules for her active participation were um, rigid.

Ahh well, back to the casino.

Pro tip: Check your settings prior to engagement.

"No basis", apart from it being they way they are handling things in Second Life, which is after all the context in which he was answering questions.

HMMM so you feel comfortable with the likelihood that LL will continue to do things the way they always have?

***Despite Ebbe's continuing insistence that SL2 will NOT be compatible with the current SL***

Dude, as you well know this is an English forum.

My tongue hurts from trying to pronounce your name; those signature Welsh double ll's are just brutal.  Even my sophisticated translation/pronunciation software breaks.   With respect, I will have to refer to you as dude.
