First of all: Here seems to be a misunderstanding of what you may have been told. You CAN NOT create MMORPGs in Second Life for various reasons. Second Life itself is a world. Anything what "create your own world" in this context means is, that you are totally free to do whatever you want. You are not tied to any quests or task like you are in a game. Even how the world looks can be influenced, because all you see is made by other users.

There are no quests, no mobs and no "skills" in Second Life. It is not a game, its a virtual world.

There is no general function for spells, skills or combat in Second Life. Not like in an MMORPG, where everyone has it by default and wants it. Many roleplayers use this kind of HUD to increase their options in expresing their characters, I think for someone playing a mage in a medivalfantasy setting this HUD could be useful.

Yeah, RPG and combat systems are done in SL. You'll need to find land with build permission to rez things, sandboxes are around for starting out. If you wan to make a full game you will probably need a more permanent building spot and that means renting land, that's when SL starts to get expensive.

While you in theory COULD make an MMO in SL, the cost and time plus the technical challenges of the limited scripting options available in SL make it prohibitive. People have attempted to make MMO style RP systems with vairied success. Two that I can think of are Revolt and Total War. Revolt has seiges, Total War has Mobs. But nothing is as fully implimented as even an MMO with the roughest production values.
