I took a picture with my snapshot camera in firestorm. Uploaded it but when people click on it its small (256px x 256px). Unconstrained makes a little bigger but not much. I have seem some profiles where pic size gets way bigger when clicked on. Anyone know how to do this?

I have it to highest resolution and save it to my computer. In my computer the pic can get bigger, but when I upload it to profile pic it is small. Clicking on it doesn't make it any bigger. Im not sure how others do it. I click on theirs and it gets much bigger.

Save it to Inventory instead of to Disk. Select the 512x512 resolution after switching the destination to "Inventory". And one thing that is less than obvious is HOW to switch destinations. There is a "Cancel" button that one would assume closes the Snapshot window. Instead it cancels the previous selection of destination and allows you to pick another.

So .. if you see the Cancel button, click it. Then choose "Inventory" as the snapshot destination, pick 512x512 resolution .. and then refresh and save. This should give you a full-size image that you can use for your Profile picture.

BTW: When I create an image on disk that is (for example) 1024x1024, upon upload to SL it has the same dimensions. Check the images you are uploading for their true resolution, not just what they display as on your computer. (You can often open Properties for an image file and find its resolution there.)

Images that are not "square" (same width as height) or that have dimensions not powers of two (64, 128, 256, 512, 1024) will be resized to fit the next SMALLEST power of two when uploaded. So an image that is 511x511 will upload as 256x256 .. not as the nearest multiple 512. A bit counter-intuitive perhaps, but it is the rule followed and thus can be protected against when you wish a different outcome or image size.

It worked and when i look in my inventory pic is bigger, but it still gets smaller when i upload it to be my profile pic (256px x 256px). I upload it through my second life. I also tried uploading it inworld. Is there another way to upload it. Maybe a setting i gotta change so it stops shrinking my pics?

Where are you viewing it that it only shows as 256x256? If you are in-world using the Viewer's Profile view then you should be able to see it in larger format. But if your Viewer is set to show profiles using only the Web interface then the image it draws from is also from the web .. and those are reduced to a maximum of 320x240 which is rendered as 256x256.

This can be seen by viewing the image: http://secondlife.com/app/image/afc417f3-9888-544d-4ac6-4f6ffdcb0159/2

If you change the URL slightly then you'll see a smaller version: http://secondlife.com/app/image/afc417f3-9888-544d-4ac6-4f6ffdcb0159/1

Even smaller: http://secondlife.com/app/image/afc417f3-9888-544d-4ac6-4f6ffdcb0159/3

It all boils down to how your viewer is set and which interface it uses to display profiles. Any chance you can provide a few screenshots to show the image you uploaded AND the way it looks when you view your profile?

I view my profile pic in firestorm. I just got to profile and click my pic and it comes up as 256x256 even though actual pic is bigger. Others say it doesn't show any bigger for them as well when they check out my profile pic. Doesn't matter what size I use it always shrinks to 256x256. I saved it to disk then uploading and tried uploading to my inventory then applying, but it didn't work. Maybe its what you wrote about the viewer being set to showing profiles using only web interface. I have no idea how to change that. Tried, but I can't even upload the snapshot here.

Well .. the image saved to your profile now is indeed 256x256:

When you upload a new profile picture at a new larger size, how do you add it to your Profile? I've always drag-n-dropped it from Inventory onto my Profile picture. You can also click on the picture in your profile and choose the new image from the list of images presented.

When you double-click the image after uploading it, what does it say in the lower-left corner? (where the above shows "256px x 256px")

I always uploaded it through the mysecondlife website. It tells me once its uploaded. I did try dragging it from my inventory onto the profile pic and it does seem to work. It shows only me the new size which is 512x512, but people still see my old 256x256. Once i log out and then back in it still shows my old one. I think dragging it on shows a preview. I have apply now checked then i click ok, but it doesnt work.
