Characters not showing up

I just upgraded to Windows 10, and now certain characters (fancy letters, smiley faces) won't show up in chat.  not all of them, just a certain few.  They show up as rectangles.  Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

What you describe means you don't have the appropriate fonts installed on your computer any more.   The fix would, therefore, be to install the missing ones, but I can't really help you on how to go about identifying which fonts you're lacking.

This is a known bug on Windows 10 - https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-9759

Windows 10 moved the default font store location & the viewer doesn't know where to find it.

For annyone using Windows 10 and wants to know how to get CJK characters to appear in SL. here's how do do it. Go to Settings/System Display,notifications,apps,power. go to Apps and features, click Manage Optional Features, then click Add a feature, and install all of the Chinese, Japanese and Korean options. logout of SL and when you login they should show up instead of the little squares.

i did all these steps n still messing up once in a while is the new firestorm viewer messed up or something
