I was curious about this and did a Google search. It seems their official forum hasn't had a post since May.

How active is it?

Also, is there an affordable aquarium that works with the fish?

To answer your question YES 7 seas fishing is very active on the grid. There are thousands of sims that you can fish on using the 7 seas rod. There are even 7seas fishing contests where winners win L$. The rod's themselves cost 250L for the pro verson. It is worth the money. As for aquariums, they sell it on their 7 seas vender along with other acceries.

I went ahead and started 7 Seas fishing last week and discovered that it was pretty active. I participated in some events. Came in 3rd place twice now. Woohoo!

 

I've made one of the leaf boats and the oceanography database, so far.

 

After research, I went ahead and got the aquarium pack. Mostly because it works best with the fish and would use less prims.
