Just drag them from your inventory to the floor.   If you want to move them around, select any item with a right click and then open your Build/Edit tool (CTRL + 3).   Use the red/green/blue arrows to move things.  Hold down the CTRL key and use the colored circles to rotate things.

In SL there are often multiple ways to do the same thing. There are different ways to get to where you can move something.

In SL jargon we just say, "rez it and..." Which means nothing to new people. But, in SL we have a guy called Torley Linden that has made a load of video tutorials. He shows you step by step how to drag something from inventory and move it around.

See:

These videos are a couple of years old. So, the viewer in them looks different. But, the process is still pretty much the same. Some menu items have moved around. A few have a slightly different name, but I think it is obvious how to handle those things.

Once you get something from your inventory by left-clicking and dragging it to the ground or floor you can do several things.

  • Right click it and select EDIT: to open the Build Panel in edit mode with the object selected
  • Press Ctrl-B to open the Build Panel, pick select mode and left click the object:  u r then in edit mode
  • In the top menu click Build->Select Build Tool->Edit Tool (not the intuitive Move Tool) and click your object.

The Build Tool is used to do all sorts of things in SL. The Red, Blue, and Green arrows are handles you use to move things. You can probably figure it out on your own. It all gets complex to explain in words. Avoid that frustration and spend 10 minues watching this video:

. (2 or 3 minutes of the video is the them trying to be funny.) The video will give you much more than you need to know. You'll probably have all you need to know in 4 minutes.

Once you complete the video and play with the Build Tool a bit, You can arrange furniture, pictures, and stuff to make your house a home.
