Question

I was merrily typing along answering a Question from an OP and noticed today that I couldn't add an excellent SL Tutorial YouTube Video using the [Insert a Video] button anymore.

Has anyone else noticed this or heard about a policy change from Linden Lab in regards to embedded YouTube Videos.

As a test I offer the following URL which has been successfully posted here in the past and the resultant error:

URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKLnhuzh9uY

Capture-Video.PNG

No - This was NOT the video I was posting to the OPs Question.

Although as parts of the SL support Facilities start to break I'm tempted to feel the flushing feeling is appropriate.

EDITED UPDATE:

[2:43 PM SLT]

I've opened up a Support Case for this issue and Live Chat has redirected it to the appropriate LL Support team in charge of the Forums.

The issue occurs when using IE, Firefox or Chrome on multiple PCs.

[2:54 PM SLT]

Something much larger is occurring. A public domain video I posted in the GD Forum on the 4th of July has it's preview page replaced with the text [video] even though the underlying HTML code is the same as it was when posted. I'm noticing this on 100's of other threads that once had embedded videos in them.

I think the rendering service that makes the video place holder image is offline. Example offered below:

Hello KarenMichelle Lane,

Thank you for contacting Second Life support. I have communicated the issue to my supervisors. They in turn have contacted the team responsible for handling this problem.

I can not state nor promise a time estimate for completion or restoration of service. However this is being worked on as we speak. Until it is resolved we ask for your patience and thank you very much for your report.

I wish you well,

It doesn't work for me either.  I thought it might be a Firefox problem, because I have recently had problems with Flash when I use Firefox.  I tried posting to Answers with Chrome instead of Firefox, though, and it made no difference.  I get the same error message that you did.  Beats me.

**UPDATE 07.15.2015***

As if this morning, the video embed functionality has been restored.

Hi KarenMichelle,

We've opened a ticket with our community platform support and hope to hear back soon to see if this can be resolved and fixed and what the timeline will be. Stay tuned!

It's apparently not about Firefox. I was chatting with a TV maker in Second Life last night. I had questions about his more expensive (but with more varied features) product versus his competitor's less expensive product -- that didn't work and produced Microsoft script errors. He explained to me that YouTube changed its API about 6 weeks ago and you would have to adapt by making a new API to use it in Second Life. He had done so and his product works fine -- he said many other TV manufacturers' were not working.

So I wonder quite simply whether Linden Lab updated the API, if Youtube on a prim doesn't work even. I personally couldn't get it to work on a prim. I'd see the picture, even be able to move the video, but hear no sound despite turning off AVG etc.

Interesting - The in-world issues have been observed for several weeks with no solution. I believe we have to wait for the in-world MOAP to become HTML5 capable. However, the [insert a Video] SL Forums webpage issues only cropped up recently The generated HTML code for any TY Video is still present when you see the older posts in the various forums using the View as HTML option. However the Web Server process that passes that string of HTML to an internal daemon seems to be failing and now in place of the Image Placeholder of the Video being displayed we now get the text [Video]. This daemon is also probably accessed when trying to add new Videos to a post. The post processing doesn't know what to do with the errors it's getting and the generic Invalid Video URL message is now displayed.
