A friend thinks I am hiding

Before logging in a friend went to the dashboard, saw my name wasn't on her friend's list, concluded I was not allowing her to see when I was online, and is now unhappy with me. I did not "uncheck" her, and she should be able to see my status at all times. I understand why she is unhappy, and this is a friendship I value. Any ideas about what's happening would be greatly appreciated.

It could be a check box or are you using a display name?  Maybe they are not recognizing your display name.

ETA In your preference do you have the 'Show only friends online' ticked?

I'm not using a display name, and the "friend can see when you're online" was checked.

 

"Show only friends online" is not ticked in my preferences.

Don't worry too much. You should explain to your friend that the friends list on the dashboard is not updated in real time. Sometimes there is a noticeable delay may occur before a friend is shown as on line after logging in; there may be also a similar lag upon logging out. Keep cool

It is a bug that if someone unchecks to show online status that they vanish from the website friends list instead of just showing as offline, so I can see why your friend would think thats the case. She should also appreciate that bugs do happen in SL & take your word for it that didn`t uncheck her.

Make sure you both still have each other`s calling cards & try defriending & refriending each other again & see if that fixes it.

There is a lot of mistrust in Second Life, caused by it would seem (a) basic human nature, and (b) glitches in the system. 

I never take the details on my dashboard or inworld friends list as the truth, nor am I offended if people hide their status from me. 

You can show your valued friend this thread and hopefully she will get a more balanced picture of the situation as everyone adds their input.
