0 Rolig Loon
Just words on a prim? Use Photoshop or GIMP or whatever your favorite graphics program is. Make an image that has power of two pixel dimensions (128, 256, 256, 512, 1024) and save it as 24 bit PNG or TGA. Upload the file (Build >>>> Upload >>> Image) for L$10 and drop it onto the face of a prim. Viola! It's a sign.
0 Lindal Kidd
To add to Rolig's answer... Remember that even though the words are why you're making the sign, you are creating a TEXTURE...a bitmapped image. This image will not only have the text of your message, but any background you choose to include. You CAN make a transparent background, but you cannot layer textures in Second Life. So anything you want behind your text has to be created when you're making your texture in GIMP or Photoshop or your own equivalent app.
