collisions? is there any way to get flexiprims to simulate collisions with meshes/prims at all?

Besides Monti's correct answer, there really IS no collision system for any worn items.  When you attach something to your avatar, it automatically becomes Phantom.  That is why avatars can "poke through" both flexiprims and mesh attachments.

The only collision system in Second Life is for Physical and regular (non-phantom) non-attached prims and mesh.

Alas, we'll never enjoying seeing the crush of our gowns occur as we are embraced by our partner's on the dance floor......only the muted disappearance of our partner's hands into the bustle of our full gowns leading everyone to wild speculation as to what those hands are doing...
