0 Rolig Loon
Begin with the Knowledge Base >> https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Build-Tools/ta-p/700039 Then visit the Ivory Tower of Prims in world and consider taking building classes at either Builder's Brewery or NCI. Both of them have excellent class offerings at all levels. And, of course, Google is your friend. :smileywink:
0 Lindal Kidd
Terrain (sometimes) doesn't need to be "built". You can right click your land and select Edit Terrain to use the terraforming tools. There are limitations with this method. On the Mainland, you can only adjust the terrain +/- 4 m from the original elevation set by LL when they created the land. On a private estate, the limits are +/- 100 m, but this is often limited or even disabled by the estate owner. Unless you are the owner of a private estate region, you can't change the ground textures. And then there are prim "add-ons." You can make simple terrain with big flat prims, or introduce a little variation by using a group of flattened spheres. You can make huge boulders, even mountains, with sculpty prims, but you will need to make them Phantom and place invisible "walking" prims on or just under or over the apparent surface to let people actually walk on them. Or you can make big Mesh boulders and mountains in a program like Blender. The bigger and the more detailed these are, the higher will be their land impact (prim equivalent.) "Off sim" terrain can be placed out in the void areas beyond a region's borders. This is accomplished by making an invisible "anchor" prim linked to the terrain object. This anchor prim resides on the sim, allowing the visible terrain to exist beyond the sim edge.
