Hello

I have a friend that really makes use of SL, this friend has at least 2 big spaceships where you can walk inside like a house or skybox and have different devices on it where one can sit and use the different functions of the ship, the ship itself can fly and move around a sim like a vehicule, it has no poseballs and can travel between SIMs.

How are those made ?

It can be  done using a vehicle script such as hellicopter script or airplane  script.  The root prim x axis will be the long vertical axis of rocket. Y axis  rotation used for pitch and x axis rotation used for roll.  This way the rocket can take off vertically....then pitch over  after it gets airborne ....    Banking/left /right  can be set with vehicle banking parameters.  There is a vehicle tutorial in the scripting Library under vehicles listing. Find any  free  basic vehicle  script with modify permissions and   modify to behave as a rocket.

Have fun :)

I've only heard rumours about it but apparently there once was a sim sized hangaship moving around in the Blake Sea.

Sim crossing problems don't only depend on a vehicle's size.

Physics weight plays a huge role here and if you switch as much as possible of the structure to physics shape none when the vehicle is moving, you can reduce sim crossing troubles considerably.

Scripts are very important. Many motorcycles and cars perform poorly at sim crossings because they all use the same highly inefficient commercial script system. Larger vehicles are more likely to have custom made scripts written by skilled scripters.

And of course, the driver's/pilot's experience matters. When you've done a few sim crossings you begin to get a feel for it and you know pretty much how fast you can go and at which angle and you're a bit better prepared when the vehicle suddenly seems to veer off in odd directions just as it enters the new sim.
