Friends accepted then poof they are gone.

I did as suggested and I found one person in my calling cards and the other not.  Guess I will need to find that person and refriend.   Even after reboot, for the calling card I found in inventory, it still was not on friends list

Is it possible I was defriended?

Hi, I have accepted friendships one day and then subsequently when I return the next day, they are not on my friends list.  What is happening?

This used to be a regular issue with the SL Viewer/SL Database. Please check your Inventory Friends folder to see if their calling cards are still present in there. If yes, try relogging and see if your friends list rebuilds itself.
