Hello Mira.

1)At first try to rebake your textures with Ctrl+Alt+R. I guess you have already done it, but repeat it several times.

2)Also, open your inventory, write something in search there and wait fetching ALL your items till the last one. After that, move to a region with less lag. Smith  is a protected land which is recommended. There, try to change outfit. Choose one with just the necessary stuff (skin, shape, hair, eyes, pants and shirt) without any attachments.

3)If it doesn't work for you, test your avatar. In Viewer 2 give the command: Menu Develop (Ctrl+Alt+Q) --> Avatar --> Character Tests --> Test Male / Female.

4)If the problem remains, clear your cache: Preferences, Setup, Reset and Relog

5)If still you are a cloud, clear your cache manually:

(XP) - C: \ Documents and Settings \ (USER NAME) - Application Data \ SecondLife and
C: \ Documents and Settings \ (USER NAME)\ Local Settings \ Application Data \ Second Life

(Vista) and (Win 7) - C: \ Users \ (USER NAME) \ AppData \ Roaming \ SecondLife and
C: \ Users \ (USER NAME) \ ApplData \ Local \ Secondlife

Log out and delete everything in those folders and restart first your computer and after the program. Usually the folder Appdata is a hidden folder. (Windows Tools \ Folder Options \ View & enable Show Hidden Files/Folders)

Have in your mind that if you clear your cache manually you will lost all your private conversations which are saved in your computer. To avoid it copy the folder with your username in the folder Secondlife in another position in your hard disk.

If you have more that 1 viewers installed in your computer, you must to do it for all following the same paths in your hard disk.

For example C: \ Users \ (USER NAME) \ ApplData \ Local \ PhoenixViewer

After that you log in back in a protected land (Smith, Lime, Aqua). If you can't choose it, enable "Show on login" under your preferences, general tab. Open your inventory, type something and follow the same process as i described.

Let us know if you fixed your problem or you need more help.

That can often be a connection problem.  Unlike computer games that you may have played, SL streams information back and forth between its servers and your client all the time.  This is especially true for information about your avatar.  Until the servers and your own computer both have the same, complete set of information, your avatar has a default shape. In the "old days" that shape was a rather ugly female.  Today, it's a fluffy white cloud.  If you ever want to have fun with Ruth, read http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Ruth.

Anyway, what to do? ....  The easiest thing is to rebake.  Type CTRL + Alt + R.  That will force the servers and your computer to try and synchronize. If that doesn't work, try completely rebuilding your avatar.  Open the Advanced (CTRL + D) or Develop (CTRL + Q) menu and select Character >> Chaacter Tests >> Test Male to replace your av with a brand new one.  Then drop your favorite shape, skin, and attachments on ourself to get back to "normal."  Other things to try:  (1) Use a cable connection instead of wireless (2) Reboot your modem and router.

When asking for help it really helps if you tell us which viewer and computer system you are using. Many people use multiple viewers (one for building, one for exploring, etc.) and some prefer older versions.

All the various fixes for an avatar failing to render are here: Avatar Render Problems: Ghost Cloud Smoke Ball Ruth
