  1. Happy Spring! It’s time to catch you all up on recent product developments! Continue reading for mobile updates, scripting news, new feedback portal (and end-of-life for JIRA), and Viewer releases. 📱 Mobile Private Alpha Update Big and small updates! This is a reminder that Premium Plus members can apply to participate in our Mobile Private Alpha. If you are a Premium Plus subscriber, and you’re ready to try the app and help us make it better, find out more. We recently updated the Second Life Mobile Alpha to support streaming audio! You can enjoy music in Second Life on your mobile device while hanging out with friends inworld. Streaming audio is off by default. To turn it on, go to Settings > Developer tools > Enable Streaming Audio. We have brought you a couple of new Chat UI features: Start a new chat from any chat screen On the Nearby Chat screen, see how many people are nearby. Next up - teleport and avatar display improvements. We think we’ve got avatar shapes figured out…and the real challenge - skeleton deformers - are also in the works! 🐛 JIRA end-of-life Yes, the king is dead, long live the king! While we have said goodbye to Jira as the platform for collaboration with our residents as well as for internal issue tracking, we believe this has allowed us to improve visibility and collaboration. The new Second Life Feedback Portal is a great place for any new bug reports or feature requests, while the public Second Life Viewer project on GitHub is where we continue our open-source work. Speaking of the Second Life Feedback Portal, it has already received 672 posts, 2635 comments, and 6426 votes! We thank you for your enthusiastic participation. We have made many updates since we first introduced it in January including a whole new UI and dark mode (based on your system settings). We will continue to improve the feedback portal and, most importantly, review all the incoming reports and requests! Although Jira is dead, the archive remains. As mentioned in our Pt. 2 blog post, the Jira archive of the Second Life BUG project on GitHub is now available. You can find the public BUG archive at https://github.com/secondlife/jira-archive/issues. The archive currently contains most of the previously public Jira tickets from the original BUG project. However, there are a few that we are still moving over. It does NOT include tickets that previously had restricted access. 👩‍💻 Scripting changes Out now: Increased sensor result limit We've increased the maximum number of results returned by llSensor and llSensorRepeat from 16 to 32. This will reduce the need for workarounds such as repeatedly scanning small slices of space. Coming soon: llSetLinkSitFlags, llGetLinkSitFlags, SIT_FLAG_NO_COLLIDE In an upcoming server release we will be allowing scripts to set and get the sit flags of linkset sit targets via llSetLinkSitFlags and llGetLinkSitFlags. In addition, scripts will be able to set the SIT_FLAG_NO_COLLIDE flag to disable the avatar's collision volume when they are seated. This will be useful for clown cars and other creations. Scripting roadmap Status of these upcoming changes and more are visible on Second Life's new public roadmap at feedback.secondlife.com. If you have ideas or feedback on the scripting system check out the Scripting Features and Scripting Bugs boards. 🪀 Creator news Coming soon: 15% reduction to mesh download impact Download weight is one parameter used as part of calculating an object’s Land Impact (LI). We will be reducing this by 15%, decreasing the land impact of many mesh assets. LI for mesh-based objects is either download weight, physics or server cost, whichever is greatest. This change will not impact animesh or mesh upload fees. Coming soon: Scheduling automatic daily region restarts This feature has been on people's wish lists for many years. Estate managers will soon be able to schedule automatic region restarts via the region console: > help region_schedule region_schedule Display or modify scheduled region events. An empty parameter list will display the current schedule. unset <event>: Removes the scheduled event. set <event> daily HH::MM::SS will set the event to occur daily at the scheduled time. set <event> weekly days HH::MM::SS will set the event to occur on the indicated days at the scheduled time. S=Sun, M=Mon, T=Tue, W=Wed, R=Thurs, F=Fri, A=Sat Note: Times are in GMT While most regions do not need to be restarted more frequently than weekly, which is automatically scheduled, some regions with high traffic may benefit from more frequent restarts. When you restart a region, keep in mind that everyone on the region will be kicked out. 💻 Viewers Maintenance Viewer GLTF PBR Maint 2 contains another round of fixes and refinements to PBR rendering, including a preview of Materials from Inventory while editing objects. 2. Looks like we missed a couple of viewer release announcements, but better now than never! This Maintenance release is pretty solid with fixes and features to please the palate. Full release notes and download: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/5.1.2.512803 Maintenance: Nalewka* is bringing you the next sweet batch of fixes. It's what you've come to expect - we fixed some crashes and memory leaks, threw in bugfixes and improvements for a smooth and pleasant experience. This build also includes fixes for crashes in SL Launcher. This version is now based on our new 64-bit Second Life Viewer. More details about what differences it has can be found here. Rendering Performance no longer degrades due to several scenarios with objects outside of view New head attachment slots are visible in mouselook now Stuck physics are unstuck Terrain detail setting will now correspond to Graphics Quality Physics bounce improvements. Enjoy! Texture rendering fix Crashes not crashing startup benchmarking, Launcher failure, startup in LLView::setShape(), memory-related, texture fetch, on exit in some menus, mesh model update, name cache, inventory categories, Memory leaks not leaking Inventory Received items are now searchable via inventory search. And visible in Worn tab. And overall treated more fairly. Trash Delete Alert will accurately show folder count that will be deleted Uploading model to inventory will show it in inventory. Because that makes sense. Unblocking Unblocking avis will unblock their particles too. Unblocking text through right-click menu in chat works. Such the mixed bag Snapshot save freeze unfrozen Searchtools fix for Land Sale price tag in World map Efficiency improvements Avatars with one name used to have no Favorites on login screen. Everyone can have Favorites now. Favorites for all! Also, there was some weirdness and lost information when you reorder Favorites. Un-weirded now. Bulk upload to unicode-named folder fixed Ctrl+C works on dialog text Punycode URLs are now supported Upload JPEG with unicode and we will handle it. None Found instead of Loading … in Edit Outfit Various minor UI improvements If you don’t allow media to autoplay, the Viewer will respect that You can’t make a landmark if you’re not there. Them’s the rules When you post your Snapshot to Twitter you can write whatever you want Disable Parcel Music. Enable Parcel Music. It just works. Game on! Game off! URL named groups won’t be displayed as links. Sneaky groups! HTTPS for the splash page Respect “Hide pointer while typing" Windows setting (thanks Ansariel Hiller!) A list of all Release Candidates and other Viewer Projects in the works is always on the wiki. Of course, as always, we welcome your bug reports in Jira! *According to Wikipedia, Nalewka ([na'lɛfka]) is a traditional Polish category of alcoholic beverage. Similar to medicinal tinctures, it is usually 40 to 45% strong (though some can be as strong as 75%), and is made by maceration of various ingredients in alcohol, usually vodka or neutral spirits. Among the ingredients often used are fruits, herbs, spice, sugar or molasses. The name nalewka is currently being registered for national appellation within the European Union. Unlike ordinary liqueurs, nalewkas are usually aged. Taste-wise, it is similar to apple and fruit-flavored brandies such as calvados or eau-de-vie (or Canadian maple syrup-infused whiskey), but is much sweeter, almost liqueur-like.
  3. This release presents a nice drop in crash rates as well as a smooth aftertaste of an assortment of improvements and bug fixes. You can always get the latest stable release from get.secondlife.com. Maintenance: Martini - Shaken and not stirred According to Wikipedia, The martini is a cocktail made with gin and vermouth, and garnished with an olive or a lemon twist. Over the years, the martini has become one of the best-known mixed alcoholic beverages. H. L. Mencken called the martini "the only American invention as perfect as the sonnet" and E. B. White called it "the elixir of quietude". New Features We know that when you block someone, you really don’t want to hear from them. So now, even if they pay you, the accompanying message will not be displayed. Viewer-side changes to support only sending Offline IM to email for accounts with Verified email address. Why sit in front of a blank teleport screen? Read the Message of the Day instead! Because now we’ll actually show it on teleport. Inventory floater -> Recent tab -> Search -> link will now open Search Filters for Inventory. Marketplace No more unlisting active Marketplace listings before the inventory is fully fetched. What a bad idea that was. Marketplace listings that are cached will actually load from cache instead of constantly fetching. Inventory / Appearance / Outfits Detaching worn items isn’t gonna make Inventory jump anymore. Sit still, inventory. Save a screenshot -> Save As -> pick the name, not have one assigned to you. Avatar physics will now be more consistent regardless of framerates. Notecards inside notecards with full perms are back to being copyable… it’s turtles all the way down. Assigning snapshot to Outfit had a bug that’s now gone. Editing Quick fix to light projector Fixed Ping interpolate object position. Ready, aim, fire! Unbroke Materials texture selection When editing a prim, the “Use Texture” option will not appear where it’s not wanted. Logging in and going places Maps link wasn’t setting the start location in the viewer sometimes. Go where you’re told, viewer! When we tell you it’s time to update, the download link will open in an external browser. Stability & Performance Fixes and crash fixes in texture cache, memory allocation, rendering. Crash fixes in LLScriptFloaterManager, LLGroupMgr, LLProfile, LLEventPump Assorted UI fixes Chat history will display again for all groups, regardless of their name. High-rez screens will no longer have hard-to-catch cursor targets Sometimes, a floater would drift (float, even) across logins, but will now stay put. Minor UI fixes and regressions (Appearance floater, TOS floater, Delete confirmation toast) Translations update. You can go on to read the full release notes with a list of all fixed issues. A list of all Release Candidates and other viewer projects in the works is on the wiki. Of course, as always, we welcome your bug reports in Jira!
  4. After a bit of a protracted battle with crashes, the Maintenance: Moonshine viewer has finally been promoted from RC to default release today. You can always get the latest stable release from get.secondlife.com. And yes, we do like the naming theme we've chosen. Moonshine was originally a slang term used to describe high-proof distilled spirits usually produced illicitly, without government authorization. In recent years, however, moonshine has been legalized in various countries and has become a term of art. Legal in the United States since 2010, moonshine is defined as "clear, unaged whiskey". This deploy is filled with a jigger of crash fixes, a splash of translation fixes and a kick that will make you say "I can't feel my face anymore!" New Features: Better information on animations: Develop->Avatar->Animation Info all '0000' cases don't happen for own avatar (it is fine for others) inventory animations display animation name in-world animations marked as such Expanded Inventory: Added Worn tab with option to show selection in Main panel My Inventory > Gear menu > Show filters: Created by me, Created by others Search by Name, Description, Creator, UUID Ongoing infrastructure work: Increased minimum & default cache size. Added cache version guard. Additional work on viewer caches is ongoing. Viewer will no longer hammer login during an outage. Logging changes & cleanup. Odd UI behaviors fixed: If SLVoice process crashes, we’ll now disable the Speak button, so that you’re not laboring under false pretext. Typing a slash in the internal browser no longer moves focus to the chat window. You were not able to save login credentials on clean install, but now you are, thanks to Nicky Dasmijn. Inventory & Marketplace Listings floaters had oddly small scroll zones. System information was truncated in JIRA issues filed through "Help -> Report bug" when viewer language is not set to English. We like and use that information, so that’s fixed now. Correctly display time & date in all languages in About Second Life. Other odd behaviors made less odd: Avatar used to stop near the region's border when crossing it with autopilot, but now it will boldly go where you told it to go. In the past, local viewer wouldn’t show seated avatar following the seat object when object would move. Now everything moves smoothly as it should. Changing avatar sex while sitting used to break animations until relogging. No longer! If you cut an item and delete it, it will actually delete. Flexi-prims used to flap wildly in a high-fps viewer, but will now flap no more than 60fps. We now won’t allow you to add your own avatar to rendering exceptions list. Apparently, that makes you invisible. Bucket of Bug fixes : Videos will no longer keep playing in the internal browser after you’ve closed the browser window. If you log in on a dev grid, you get that grid’s search. Auto-open debug console if any "Info to Debug Console" operations are picked Unicode install path FTL & other bugfixes. Crash report was not generated/sent if appdata path contains unicode symbols. That’s bad, we want all the crashes. Various crash fixes and speculative crash fixes. Outfit Gallery was leaking memory. Now we give it back when done with it. Outfit gallery would duplicate photos for an outfit in some cases. No more of that annoying behavior. The "Confirm before deleting filtered items" notification no longer appears when deleting Marketplace listings Several fixes to Avatar picker floater to better pick avatars with. Search Places checkbox was not showing correctly to non-land-owners. That was weird. Added missing translations. You can go on to read the full release notes with a list of all fixed issues. A list of all Release Candidates and other viewer projects in the works is on the wiki. Of course, as always, we welcome your bug reports in Jira!
  5. We’re happy to say the Maintenance: Margarita viewer has been promoted from RC to default release today. You can always get the latest stable release from get.secondlife.com. Some highlights of this release … Maintenance: Margarita is like a blender full of ice and goodness. Shaker of assorted bugfixes: Various weird regressions fixed when the install path is unicode UI fix to not make it seem like anyone can change estate access settings (no one could, but the viewer didn’t reflect that.) Crash fixes (Accordion tab in outfits, Changing outfits - thanks Cinder!, Saving snapshot, saving texture to desktop or inventory - thanks Sovereign Engineer!, Highlighting an item with SLURL, unpackVolumeFaces and other memory allocation, receiving unrecognized messages) More crash fixes for your crash fixes UI fix to sync right-click menus in Conversations Fix for keyboard focus Fix for freezing in About Second Life Fix for slurl appearing instead of avatar name in chat. URLs in group name won’t be clickable anymore. You can Spin and Lift your objects all at the same time now! Annoying selection bug in Group abilities is fixed now. Teleport routing override via “Create Landmark” had been broken by recent changes, and we unbroke it now. Didn’t know this was a thing? That’s why you should read release notes! Other concoctions to help you hang on: Permission request notification is now sticking around until you take action on it. When your disk was too full to save a snapshot, we would save an empty one. Now we tell you that your disk is full and you need to clean up. Images were showing improper proportions when unconstrained. Proprietary restored. Images opened from inventory would sometimes not load completely. That’s silly and fixed. Updated viewer login failure message with more accurate info on contacting support. Localization update Changes to make sure getting Wasted away is intentional: Fix for number of items in Trash calculation Trash is full floater wasn’t showing in some conditions when it should have been. It will do as it should now. Fix for when Trash version gets out of synch A delete warning will now show up once every session to cut down on accidents Trash purge message will include number of items deleted Added a warning when deleting filtered content - thanks Kitty Barnett! You can go on to read the full release notes with a list of all fixed issues. A list of all Release Candidates and other viewer projects in the works is on the wiki. Of course, as always, we welcome your bug reports in Jira!
