    This is why we can't have nice things.

    An entire game character. 35K polys .. probably 50K tris more or less. First one I found on googums. Intended to run on a real time game engine, a 3D rendering race car if you will. A single ugly shoe from SL .. powered by a render engine thats more akin to a tugboat . 18K tris. It also contains a second hidden copy of the strap, but still counts. The same wireframe shoe at similar human scale to the above game character. Looks solid. We have a major problem. There is no way on earth that shoe was designed specifically for use in SL or real time content. It's for rendered content .. marketing, billboards .. film .. It make no sense whatsoever that the original creator went to the trouble of making it that detailed just for SL, that would represent a significant amount of work and time and is not in any way fit for purpose. No one with that level of 3D skill would intentionally make that content for SL. No one with that level of 3D skill would have any problems making it half the tris. No one with that level of 3D skill would have any problems making it 10% of the tris. This is the first random shoe I found in my inventory. This is why we can't have nice things.
  2. Greetings everyone, this is my first topic and i'm glad to be part of this helpful community. I'm fairly new on SL but i tried my best to understand how it works so far. My simple question is: Is it possible to Dmca an item that isn't sold anymore on the marketplace? I've seen many people going around using ripped mesh avatars from other videogames and i was wondering if the original creators (in this case the companies) could still file a dmca towards these sellers even tho they are not seeling the items itself anymore on their MP store.   3. Hello, Sorry to trouble/disturb anyone but I've encountered an issue and Googling hasn't helped much. Would like to ask if anyone knows the reason for this 'error' or perhaps could point me in the right direction which I could look for answers. Would really really appreciate it. ? I made a mesh object that simulates animation using llSetTextureAnim, (4 frames, 2 by 2) and cycles through the four frames of mesh, giving the illusion that the object 'Jumps'. The object animates without any issue when stationary. However when I script it to wander about, there are instances (random) where the texture / textureAnimation gets funky and freezes at the botched up state as it moves from point A to point B. For movement (from Point A to B) I have tried using: 1. llSetKeyframedMotion 2. llMoveToTarget methods individually with both yielding the same results. Is there anything i could do to reduce the instances of it happening (if not) solve it? Have summarised the scripting but it is essentially a combination of llSetTextureAnim (to simulate a upward jumping motion) and llMoveToTarget + llLookAt to move forward and give the illusion of jumping forwards. Things I have tried that didn't work: > placing llSetTextureAnim in not_at_target event hoping it would fire and over write the issue > placing llEventDelay just before llMoveToTarget (as advised by someone else) I have tried asking in a group in-world with someone mentioning that it is likely a server to client issue. Is there anything I could do on my side regarding this issue? Best Regards, Lucidia.

It may sound idiotic but no matter how many things I buy nothing works and I am stuck with one skin that I do not like.     Multiple faces causing shadows in world

    I have a mesh body that I am trying to cut up and assign materials using Blender 2.79 (primarily for using alphas under clothing). I am using Separate by selection to create smaller mesh pieces. I am assigning materials by selection. Each mesh piece has no more than 8 materials/faces. I have not done any resizing or modifications to any new piece created. When I upload the entire mesh body, i.e. all the pieces together as one DAE, I can see shadows at the edges of each material/face (in SL Beta grid) even after assigning a skin texture. Seeing horizontal and vertical lines on a thigh or a knee just doesn't look right. I am using Avastar 2.4 to export the DAE from Blender. I am using the latest official release of Firestorm to upload the DAE. I have also tried the standard SL viewer to upload. Are there settings that I am missing either when creating the pieces, creating the DAE, or uploading to SL? Are there settings in Firestorm that affect whether I see those shadows or not? ~Sean Heavy
  9. I am having trouble getting meshes into SL with proper UVs and textures. I'll describe my workflow (3ds Max) and maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong or if I'm missing a step. I've attached an image that show the problems I'm getting in a nutshell. # I create model in MAX # I unwrap and UV the model inside MAX # I export UV template and edit it in Photoshop to apply textures to chosen UV islands # I bring the texture back into MAX and use it as diffuse map for a material # I name the material without spaces and do the same for the diffuse map's name (I heard SL does not like names with spaces etc) # I apply the material to my model in MAX - everything looks correct. # I do a quick render and again all looks correct. # I export the model as DAE (1) As Max's default DAE exporter using defaults and (2) As Max's alternate OpenCollada DAE using defaults. # I go to SL BETA Grid (Latest Firestorm viewer) # I go through the UPLOAD process for both models using the default upload settings for the most part # If I chose to include textures, I get an error - missing textures (see image), for BOTH uploads. # I upload without textures, and this works ok. # I upload the texture I created in photoshop (.png) so as to apply it manually within SL # Applying the texture gives screwy results - see image. But different results on each model. So - This is the process I followed. What am I doing wrong or what am i not doing? Any help, guide or tutorial pointers very much appreciated.

  11. Hi folks, i want to upgrade but a little shy on funds at the moment, I JUST missed the signature sale by like 3 hours.. sigh.. that would have been ideal. I am interested in becoming mesh. I looked at the Ocacin and that just didn't to it for me. I'm sure its a nice body, but i want to keep looking. I don't mind spending some money, but 3500L for the body and 3500L for the head is a bit beyond my budget. TMP seems to be dated from what I've read. My budget is prob 3500L for the total package right now. does signature have those kind of sales often? i can wait it out if need be. not in a rush really. been around 11 years or so, a couple months wont kill me. Thanks!
  12. I know there are a lot of little bits of topics on mesh, so please bear with me. I've been away for about four years and I almost feel like I am forced to switch to a mesh body, which really upsets me. I worked hard on my "classic" system body, and it took years of tweaking to get it where I like it. Now I come back and there are almost no "classic" system layer clothes to be had. Most all clothing has moved to mesh. My issue with mesh clothing is that it forces you into a pre-defined size. This is actually a less minor issue for my girls than my male avatar, as the women's mesh clothing comes in a variety of size options. But my guy, he's a BIG DUDE! He's based on someone I knew RL who was BIG! I can get him a mesh body and adjust the sliders to keep him big, but all of the demo clothing I've tried force him to be a fekkin' skinny-mini. As if tall and thin were the only male body type. He's not a huge fashionista. He doesn't need wardrobes full of clothes. I just need some basics that fit his Viking-sized body, and finding decent classic system layer clothing is hard. I'm having to go back to the oooooold freebie stores, and, just, ew! So what am I missing?

    Cinema 4D mesh import error [HELP]

    Trying to upload objects from cinema 4d getting error message: "Error: Dae parsing issue". - I've tried to import file into blender and export with blender into SL and still no luck. I need a fix on how or why its not working to import into sl from c4d.
  14. I recently switched avi styles - its a complete package and i like the proportions, while im not in love with all aspects but.... the biggest issue is clothes that fit/work with my avi... any advice? (and no i dont really want a different avatar style)

    What is this? and How do I fix it?

    Okay, so I noticed in my viewer that certain meshes don't rez for me at a certain distance. I can understand if I was further away. But sometimes I'm only a few meters away from the objects. What makes this more unsettling for me is that objects around the unrezzed mesh are rezzed correctly. It's a small technical issue, but it bothers me. Is this issue even fixable? if so, how do I do so? Photo of example below. It's more noticeable on the Autumn cart. Those orange triangles are suppose to be pumpkins.

    Mesh gets distorted in SL

    Hello guys, I have a problem which I can't figure out. I've created a dragon mesh in Blender 2.79. My plan was to have beads on the wing tips and one in the eye. So, I used a UVsphere for that. It looks ok in Blender as you can see on the picture bellow. Then I went to Beta grid. When I uploaded the model it didn't looked as expected. All beads got distorted. I tried to separate the beads and upload as separate file or as one model (beads included), but result is still the same. Can you explain to me how to handle this problem. Seems like SL is distorting my UVsphere. One more thing. The sphere is small only 3 mm in diameter. Thank you.

    IN NEED OF A MESH TEACHER

    Hi everyone! I've been trying to mesh now using blender for about two years and have never gotten anywhere with it, I would love if there is someone out there willing to help me learn the skill or even the software itself, and I can go from there! I'm looking to make clothes mainly .. but would love to branch out into hair at some point! I am also interested in making cute looking skins and eyebrows etc i'm overall just a very creative person and I would love to use Second Life as a platform for my ideas as there is no limit to what you can create!   18. Hello, I recently switched to an LAQ Bento Mesh head, and while it isn't perfect, I think it's pretty awesome and much better than the alternatives out there. One rather large problem I'm having with it however is that no one seems to be making skins for it. The LAQ skins seem to be all pretty much of a similar type and it's a type that I don't happen to like. I naively assumed that there would be third party skins for it just like all the other Bento heads out there and since LAQ's is one of the very best you can buy I was a bit surprised to find out that I can't find any skins other than LAQ's. I'm about 10,000 in on the LAQ head and skin options and I don't want to throw the investment away when a good skin would fix everything. The problem is that I'm a white, Nordic type person and I don't like the fashion model or "makeup-y" look. Out of the many skins available at LAQ, there are only like two that are even in the category. The lightest skin-tone on the LAQ spectrum (the 1.0" tone), is basically a very, very tanned white girl look as if the avatar has gone to the bronzing clinic and very shiny (as if we are all wearing makeup to the beach). All the rest are darker still and even more make-up-y. What I'm looking for is a "Nordic" white person skin, because that's what I am. Even the lightest LAQ skins, even with all makeup options turned off, have a lot of eyeliner and what looks like lipstick (although that might not be intentional). The LAQ eyebrows are also very thick and dark (even the light options). I'm certain this is the popular option and heavy brows are in keeping with what's popular in makeup today, but I'm old. I don't want to look like Kim Kardashian, I want to look like a white girl from the 1960's (i.e. my actual self). I realise different people have differing opinions, especially about makeup, and this isn't about me insulting LAQ, I just want to find a nice skin. Please only reply if you know of someone who makes skins for LAQ Bento heads. It will be pointless to have a thread with long arguments about whether my assessment of LAQ skins is accurate. As I said at the start, the LAQ Bento head is the best head I have found so far. I just don't like the skins and want something different from what is on offer.

    Bonjour tout le monde, à l'heure où j'écris ces lignes je dois avoir dépassé les 11 ans sur SL. Comme le temps passe vite ! Mais étant donné que mes connexions sont très espacées, que je ne connais plus vraiment personne ( plus du tout même ), que bien des choses ont changé, je regarde mon avatar avec le sentiment que je suis un peu devenue une espèce de dinosaure. Ah, vous allez me dire que l'apparence n'est pas tout, que c'est ce qu'il y a à l'intérieur de nous qui compte vraiment, oui, oui, je sais cela. Mais la coquetterie est une dictature en soi. Je galère un peu en récupérant par-ci par-là des p'tites choses à porter et déjà c'est un casse-tête d'adaptation sur mon avatar. J'ai bien compris de longue date le principe MESH, ah la belle invention pour ceux et celles qui ont connu les débuts ( on ne ressemblait finalement à vraiment rien du tout ). Mais franchir le pas vers un avatar Full MESH, cela a un coût et il ne faut pas se louper. J'ai donc creusé, creusé et creusé ... Je pense que dans la multitude de propositions existantes le choix de faire mon achat chez SLINK Physique-Mesh-Body me parait raisonnable. Un petit conseil, un retour d'expérience, un mot d'encouragement, même un soupir suffisant seront assurément les bienvenus. Merci d'avoir lu ma tartine, ou pas. (et hop, je jette ma bouteille à la mer)

    Making Skin for Catwa Heads

  22. I'm asking for help on behalf of a very lovely friend of mine by the name of Dein Newt. He creates BDSM gear for furry avatars. I honestly don't know the first thing about meshes, rigging, or even 3D modeling whatsoever, so I'm probably using all manner of incorrect terms and just generally sounding like an idiot. For that, I apologize. Dein received a formal education using 3DsMax, but as it happens, very few can afford commercial software, and instead use Blender, thus meaning Mesh References, the dummies used to rig for specific things are made using Blender. Blender is apparently different enough that he simply can't just switch to that and has already tried and failed to do so. He also simply can't just load up a Blender file in 3DsMax and make that work, as it apparently just comes out as nonsense when he brings it into SL itself. This is very unfortunate as it means Dein cannot make rigged mesh items for anything that doesn't have a reference specifically meant for 3DsMax. There is apparently a way to convert a Blender file to work properly as he had someone that was able to do it for him once upon a time, but they are simply far too busy to help him now. I am simply asking for whatever help that can be possibly offered. What would be most helpful is a tutorial so that he can learn to do the file conversion himself, or simply an offer from someone to convert the files for him. Anyway, thank you very much for taking the time to read this. I really do appreciate it! ❤️

    Male Mesh Body *

    Hello every one! I've been on SL for a long time and I'm still desperately trying to replicate the flesh behind the screen. Unlike most of the males I've seen on SL, I have no desire for a ripped rock hard stomach packed with abs, I'd prefer my wholesome, well fed, average body that I have RL. Currently, I am sporting the Belleza Jake body with a Catwa Dino head. I tried using the V-Tech Mod for the Matriya body, aka a Female body with a male chest, so that I could have a regular stomach and arms, but it just wasn't looking right and the complete abandonment of the Belleza Jake would leave me with a lot of clothes that will no longer fit. If anyone has skin suggestions to help hide those abs, or maybe even shapes, please shout me out! I don't know what body this is, or if it even is a body in SL, but this would be my desired end result for how i want my body on SL to look.
  25. Hello Everyone, I really wanted to cut down on the number of vertices this heart would have and after doing so, it won’t upload right on SL when I export it with avastar. However, when I use the regular exporter, it seems to work fine which is not necessarily of any advantage to me because, I plan on rigging it and I would need to export it using the avastar option once that is done ( I tested that using the previous model before making additional adjustments to it ). How can I fix it? Should I add additional vertices to the “V” area of the heart? Also, I baked some test textures and they won’t apply correctly on account of this issue. Please help.
