  1. I'm wanting to try something new and start using my account WAY more than I do lol. I really am interested in doing medieval role-play. I've never done any fantasy role-play only basic normal living role-plays (if that makes sense) and what not, I want something more exciting. Can anyone suggest any that are active and beginner friendly?
  2. Hello all! I'm seeking some work! I am an environmental builder in second life. 3. Melody Falls is a medieval fantasy role playing sim that is focused mainly around PvE instead of PVP. The land is hostile and the settlers are starting out with very little. Only with what was brought with the founders on their boat and what little supplies there was left in the town. The goal of the sim is survival. You do not have all the supplies to do whatever you want and as a community we work together towards goals. The more work put into farming, gathering, hunting, etc. can go a long way. What you do actually matters in the survival of yourself and the community. In the town the founders have settled in, they have tried to restore some of the buildings that were left abandoned by its former inhabitants. Using parts from old ships and whatever else they could find/gather to help in restoration. As you live on the island, trying to survive, there is still much on the island that is not known yet. More dangers yet to be seen and waiting for the colony. When you first arrive in the OOC hub you TP right in front of where our lore, rules, ooc tag, and other information you will need to read and be familiar with before joining. Also in the hub is the staff board listing those that are online and offline. Feel free to message one if they are around after reading the lore and rules to get an invite to the RP group. If none are around at the time, since time schedules come into play, then pop on an ooc tag and have a look around. Please be patient if no staff is around. As much as we love to roleplay, real life comes first but we will get back to you ASAP. Landmark: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Melody Falls/37/78/1250 We hope you will take the time to come see the sim, we are small but hope to grow in the future. We are just opening and have many plans for events and role play experiences players can enjoy if they are looking for something other than the standard PVP scenarios on other sims.

  8. After reading this, if you are interested or have any questions, please contact me (Dhuanolil) in-world. I'm a paragraph-roleplayer (not someone who takes 15+ minutes to make a post, however). I am hoping to find someone who is interested in roleplaying my sorcerer's apprentice in the sim Conquest of Elysium. I'm unconcerned over the race, gender, alignment, or age (a child is fine, though I'd rather it not be under ten years of age - and my character will not act as a parent) of your character. It'd just have to stick to the sim's guidelines, which you can find by clicking the link. I'm up for having more than one apprentice, too, if you choose to bring a friend or partner along. With that said, my character hails from a rather seedy, underground area ruled by unsavory types. He himself is a Drow of NE alignment. So if you choose to play a good-aligned or light (angel or light elf, etc.) character, a good story will need to be thought out for how s/he wound up in such a dangerous place. Now, time for the disclaimer: Ain't no sex / cuddling happening. My sorcerer would shank ya for trying. Ain't no coddling happening. My sorcerer's a NE Drow, sweetness is an alien concept to him. Ain't no abuse happening. Sternness when necessary, sure, but he won't beat up your character. Here is a summary of how my character (Naukhel) and his apprentice wound up in Elysium: Situated on an island, Atropa was a dangerous underground civilization full of wicked beings ranging from powerful entities to mere scoundrels. Naukhel was a lowly wizard for one of the Drow Houses that were situated near Atropa's entrance to the surface world. He had several apprentices, though one or two or preferred over the others. One of the schools of magic he knew was Divination, and during a demonstration of one of its spells he received foresight of oncoming destruction. Following the end of the vision, he swiftly packed as much as he could carry and he instructed his favored apprentice to do similarly. The two left immediately, sneaking away from the Drow House and slipping out of Atropa during the night. They stole a rowboat and traveled to the mainland, where they hid in a random cave in the forest. Two days later, Atropa met its sudden and violent end when Elysium's dragons flew to the island and collapsed the underground civilization. Thus Naukhel and his apprentice became refugees in a strange land.

  12. As you could have probably guessed by the title, I am RPing a mare and trying to find a nice roleplay I can fit into. I've recently purchased the Teegle Horse avatar, and at the moment, I've refrained from purchasing tack until I can find a place to RP. No need to go wasting all of my fresh Lindens now. With that being said, I have no trouble with buying my own items so I'm plenty capable of self-sufficiency should anyone decide that my character would make a good companion. I'm not seeking any type of roleplay in particular because I'm pretty flexible when it comes to genres. Whether it's modern, fantasy, western, or something entirely different, I'm willing to give it a shot. I have no problem with realism so no one has to worry about a talking horse if it's completely inappropriate for the RP. I'd even be glad to join a horse herd if there are any who are open to another member. All I hope to gain is a good story and good people to contribute with. The only thing to keep in mind is that I'm more of a semi-para/para RPer. I can do simple one-liners, but they often don't hold my interest as much. Now, without further ado, a short introduction: Genevieve [name subject to change per request] is a 5-year old, gray Gypsy Vanner cross, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a gentler horse anywhere. She is highly obedient and aims to please her handler (or whoever happens to be in charge) once she understands what is wanted from her. She gets along well with not just other horses but other species as well, sometimes going so far as to indulge her curiosity to investigate anyone new. She holds a certain degree of intelligence that seems to be enough to land her in mischievous situations every now and again, but she's a joy to watch on most days regardless. However, it takes time for her to get to such a state. Genevieve is also very shy and almost unconfident at a glance, especially in unfamiliar situations, and her tendency to become difficult escalates if she isn't calmed properly. Her fear of loud, sudden noises is especially terrible. For those who take the time to work with this snow-white mare, the reward comes in the form of an unyielding loyalty and compassion. Once you've got this horse's trust, it's for life, but the same could also be said if it is broken. If anyone happens to be interested, feel free to either reply to the thread below or send me (Kaybirdy) a message in-world! Same goes for any questions you might have~
  13. Song of Silverwind invites you to explore a wilderness buzzing with magics! Silverwind was once a land of an uneasy alliance between elves and the humans, however soon it erupted into a bloody war. The war lasted over a thousand years and left most of the humans and elven kingdoms in ruins. Its been hundreds of years since then and other races have claimed silverwind as their home. However below the earth something stirs. The wars caused a corruption of the earth and warped the magic itself. Shadefall, the city of the dead, waits for its time to rise. Currently we are looking for leads of the following factions and guilds: Healers Mages Fae Humans/neutral faction If you wish you can find our website here We are located here Thank you, The Silverwind Team Admins Quirin (forevermorefallen) Julnara Roainne Paradox (zandrid)

  15. I play in a medieval fantasy sim, and I am looking for a long term play partner. I would love to create amazing stories with another person who can expound on current plots, as well as get involved in other plots or create plots. My intention is to have a long term play partner as a mate for my character - the Queen of Fae. I para rp, and expect someone to be able to match or exceed the amount of detail I put into posts. My avatar is detailed, and I've spent a great deal of time with her look, I desire a player who values a well put together avatar and can make one themselves. If you have any interest in such a role, please IM me Cy Tamalyn, in world.

  17. Yes, I know I'm a nerd and I know I'm OCD about detail but I've been noticing certain trends in how roleplaying sims are being advertised and they bother my delicate sensibilities. I'm not thinking of any specific RP area as I type this. These are pretty much aggregate thoughts I've had over the past several years and I figured I'd share them. Also, this is just one issue relating to RP sims, it's not the one single issue upon which all RP sims rise or fall, it's just one issue that stood out to me over the years and right now I have the urge to share my thoughts. First, I see a lot of people conflating medieval and ancient times. I know "ancient" has become a catch-all adjective for "old" but when you're talking about a roleplay setting, "ancient" and " medieval" refer to two very distinct eras. "Medieval" is the knights and ladies, castles and kings area you commonly think of in fantasy. King Arthur, dragons and wizards with robes and pointy hats all fit into this era of legend and fantasy. A "medieval fantasy" setting is typically where you find all Tolkien derived fantasy elements. Elves, orcs, evil princesses calling out to dark forces and captured wizards waiting for their Prince Charming to rescue them. All that stuff. An "ancient" setting is much older than that. "Ancient" refers to Rome, the Greek nation states and all points going back to the earliest records of human history. "Ancient" fantasy settings have your Olympian Gods, the Minotaur, adventurers in togas and bronze chestplates fighting Medusa or building giant wooden horses that couldn't possibly be some Athenian trick. So where do the pirates of the Caribbean, the Spanish Inquisition and all of that fit in? Well, neither. Those are a part of what's known as the "Modern" era. Yeah, Blackbeard and his crew are closer in time to Big Macs and Netflix than they are to King Arthur and definitely closer to us than they are to Ulysses or Jason and his argonauts. Speaking of Ancient Greece, did you know that that is where our legends of the Amazons, the warrior women, come from? Amazons didn't live anywhere near a jungle. You're thinking of the river in South America, so named because, in the modern era, Spanish explorers saw tribes which included women warriors, and were reminded of the ancient Greek myths that were old to them! This confusion continued when Hollywood began putting out Tarzan movies with "Amazon warrior women". Yeah, they were bad at history, too. The Greek Amazons had different depictions. Sometimes they were depicted as only being women, no men. Taking men as slaves for breeding, giving away or killing the male babies and only keeping the girls. In other depictions Amazons included men, but the women were the dominant sex. The warriors and leaders. In some legends they're hostile to men, in others friendly. In one of the myths, Herakles/Hercules shows up to ask the queen for her belt as one of his trials. She agrees to give it to him as a gift, but one of the Greek goddesses instigates an all out battle because the Greek deities were jerks. In another version, Herakles just up and conquered the Amazons. Because he was also a jerk. Then of course there's fantasy eras set in other worlds, separate from our own. The "Middle Earth" from Lord of the Rings. Conan's "Hyborian Age" The sci-fi/fantasy world of Gor. Of course, many of these fantasy settings are at least based on hsitory ,using the familiarty of the real world to create a more immersive and engaging world that people can relate to. Middle Earth very much resembles the medieval era. Knights and ladies. Kings in their castles. Wizards in their towers. Swords and plat armour. The Hyborian Age more resembles the Ancient era of our world. Drawing on myths and settings of that time. Ancient gods, walled city states, togas and loin clothes. Ok, so why does any of this matter? Fantasy is not reality, and it's certainly not history. Fantasy is all made up anyways so who cares if minotaurs are fighting knights on pirate ships (which admittedly sounds pretty awesome)? Well, it matters because theming matters. Yes, you can have a fantasy setting that blends all elements of fantasy together into one generic mush, but then what are you offering when every other "medieval" fantasy sim is doing the exact same thing? What sets you apart? Why should I go play in your sim as opposed to the dozen other sims offering the exact same mush of conflicting themes? You're setting yourself up to be the beige of roleplaying. Nobody particularly likes beige. It's only used so much because nobody particularly dislikes it either. You probably won't do badly with a generic mush of fantasy themes, after all anyone can be whatever they want, but you probably won't have a particularly strong draw either. When you have everything tossed in the pot like that, nothing stands out. The sim with the most active population will suck everyone else up until their users get bored and move on to the next shiny new sim.* So if you want to stand out from the crowd, you need to offer something unique. You need a strong theme. A distinct setting. Understanding the different eras and the origins of various legends and stories and mythologies can help you do that more effectively. That doesn't necessarily mean sticking to a set, established historical or mythological setting, you can definitely play with different themes. I saw a sim the other day with a theme of a group of islands with Caribbean style pirates and jungle style tribal Amazons. That's a nifty, unique premise. Not historically or mythologically accurate, but that's not the point. They came up with a unique setting with some strong, iconic imagery. Gor, love it or hate it, has it's strong sense of setting and theme. The world is based on the books the setting comes from. You can't be a dragon or a neko in a Gor sim because those don't exist in that world. Allowing nekos, orcs, minotaurs and all that in would weaken the theme, push it more towards that generic "anything goes, nothing stands out" mush. The Pirates and Amazons sim I mentioned early also manages to keep a strong theme by sticking with those two basic elements. Pirates, with their tall, wooden boats and black powder guns and cannons, eyepatches and peg legs, versus the tribal, jungle amazons with their pelts, spears and jungle traps. Learning a bit more about the individual elements you decide to use in your RP sim will let you use those elements more effectively. Using the pirates and Amazons example again, you could incorporate pirate lore into the sim, with ghost ships, buried treasure, and Goonies style One Eyed Willie caves. You could go different directions with the Amazons, too. Either a Wonder Woman style ancient Greek city kept hidden and unchanged to the modern age, or Tarzan style jungle Amazons, or go all out on the Jungle tribes theme and incorporate elements from the Spanish exploration of South America, like the lost city of Gold. All this gives your sim a grounding and lore players can dive into, as well as its unique flavour. Anyway, that's all I had to say right now. How about you? Have you felt the same way about generic fantasy sims, but been unable to put your finger on why you felt that way? Do you think my ideas are stupid and "anything goes" is the only way to go? Have at it! *All else being equal of course. Again, there's definitely other factors that contribute to the success or demise of an RP sim.
