  1. Hello everyone! When a computer on my network is using Second Life, it causes all other computers/devices on the network to lag to the point of being unusable. While Second Life is being played, I can run a ping to www.google.com and the moment someone moves to a new sim, etc. in Second Life ping response times increase to 2000-3000ms. My internet connection is 1 gbps down, though generally we see around 700-800 Mbps down. I am using the Firestorm viewer. I have tried Second Life viewer as well. I have checked the network settings and set it to 700 kbps. The system that is playing Second Life is exceptionally powerful and is used to stream games regularly in 720p/1080p. Changing settings to reduce draw distance and graphics seems to have very little to no effect. I have tried increasing cache settings to the maximum. To be clear, this happens with Second Life specifically and can be consistently repeated. No other game or application has caused the issue to date. I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this issue. If anyone has any ideas of what I might try or how I might contact Linden Labs support (I can't seem to make a ticket about anything close to this kind of issue), I would genuinely appreciate it.
  2. (Apologies if this has been asked a thousand times. I have tried to use the search but not found the answer) Basically - I have a small parcel - just 20 x 40 metres with my little house in it. But when I walk around I sometimes can hardly move, or then I will sink into the floor then suddenly reset to floor level. I have turned on the lag meter and it says server lag is bad (it shows in red). It is on mainland in an adult area. I have a modest amount of furniture. My understanding is that this type of lag is largely caused by too many scripts in the sim. I have had an explore and high above me just to one side is a huge deserted adult club in a castle in the air. I had a nosy around and it is full of *interesting* and complicated-looking equipment. It seems to be completely abandoned (I have never seen anyone there in 'radar'). I contacted the land owner some time ago (and sent a notecard) and have had no response. Maybe they no longer use Second Life. So three questions: 1. Is there a range from my parcel within which other people's scripts can affect performance back in my parcel, or is it the whole sim? 2. If I am affected by the whole sim how big is a sim? I have looked on https://maps.secondlife.com but can't see sim borders. 3. Is there no policy of de-rezzing objects or at least disabling scripts in abandoned places? If not it seems to be this could be a good policy from LL. Though... I suppose the tenant must still be paying for the land on a monthly basis?
  3. I run second life on the firestorm viewer but am having issues now where I am having textures rez up, but then blur out and re rezz and are doing this repeadtly on there and is causing me to suffer with lag while sl is rendering the texture it just rendered again and has made the experience quite unenjoyable. I just tried a full uninstall of the setup and tried a fresh install and its not fixing the issues and am wondering how to fix this as I have been stuck at my home now in sl for last five days as can't enjoy clubs or other sims due to the problem.
  4. Hello there, I don't have a lot of knowledge about scripts. I would need your help to classify the things that are very greedy in scripts and able to cause a lot of lag in a sim, from the most important (most greedy, most able to cause some lag) to the less important, among following things: 1°) a small shop full of many vendors (you know those panels related to Caspervend that you click on to buy things in shops), 2°) 2 bots avatars (automated avis), 3°) 6 breedable dogs, 4°) 7 games tables, 5°) 2 animesh horses Thanks in advance for helping me to classify them!
  5. Hey there! I’m coming back from a hiatus and quickly realized an aspect of what made me stop logging on which were the technical issues. I think I check the boxes when it comes to having a system and connection to support SL (good system specs, GPU, wired connection and not wireless) but I still bump into a noticeable amount of lag and issues whenever I log in. A while ago I think I ran into someone saying that SL can only do so much with the specs you have even if you have the most expensive GPU and greatest connection, but it ultimately depends on SL’s system and the engine it uses. So, I would like to know how much can I do to improve and notice when I’m the problem or if it’s SL. I love the potential of SL but the lag frustrates me so much. I can turn down graphics but it really breaks my immersion personally and I feel like it’s watering down what people create What are your thoughts?
  6. Hello. I got an older PC it’s actually dual core Intel Pentium wich is fine and game accepts that but my graphic card and SSD won’t accept that. (Graphic: Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce GT220 1GB, SSD: 8.9 GB) do you know about some way or some viewer wich can run on piece of scrap like this? Thank you 💋 Elena.
  7. I'm experiencing terrible lag in Linden homes. It takes forever to even see the house and wall colors, and when I rez something it takes forever to rez. My typical FPS is 80-150, but there it's 4-12. I end up getting frustrated and leaving. It's not fun when it takes 5 or more minutes to see what you've rezzed. Even trying to look at a texture in my inventory took forever to become visible.
  8. I'm running Firestorm on a MacBook Pro 13'' 2017/4. Would a BlackMagic Radeon RX580 eGPU solve the fr issues on higher graphics settings?
  9. i reside in the uk, did a speed test to servers in usa, got a ping time of 18 ms download speed 70 m bits, upload speed of 20 m bits my prob is when using firestorm, or any other view, when i visit certain regions on sl, i ge a ping of well over 600 ms, this seems to be problem with lag, can anyone give me info how to get this lower my connection is very good help would be appreciated, thank you
  10. Hello, On my old PC usually i was lagging on sims with many ppl around or with way too many deco items which was normal i think cos it wasnt the best pc and i had it almost 6 years so i was ok with it. almost a month ago I got my new PC, which is much better than the pc i had before. but it feels like its lagging even more for some reason. when i try to move it has delay and then when i stop moving the animation that im moving keeps going for few more seconds...sims and avatars takes time to rez. and when i open SL even my browser gets slow like it makes my internet lagging or my pc...not sure about it. i got my new pc and i thought sl would be awesome but what i see is that its even worst. at the start i thought it needed some time to get all the settings and all. but after a month its still the same, i even tried to clear cash or even use an older version of firestorm but still had the same problem. I tried to make my graphics from ultra to medium or even to low and still the same lag. i have no idea whats wrong and it makes it so laggy, so if anyone can help would be amazing. 😳 here are the specs from my new pc: Operating System Windows 10 Pro 64-bit CPU Intel Core i9 @ 3.60GHz 40 °C Kaby Lake 14nm Technology RAM 64.0GB Motherboard Micro-Star International Co. Ltd. 11. Hello! I've been having an issue that Ive been deeling with for a few weeks now, it is making SL unplayable. FS loads worlds fine, but god forbid there are avatars on it, because it seems to freeze up and start ghosting as soon as an avatar teleports by me. its a gamebreaking issue for me, my voice chat goes down, and my viewer locks up for seveal seconds and then it just pops back to normal for every avater. I know its not my computer, its a brand new computer with a 3700x, a rtx 2070 and 32 gigs of ram. And Sl was runing great for awhile. however I recently switched internet providers (from att to comcast) and as soon as I booted it up for the first time after getting the switch , it was broken. I have been messing with my bandwith settigns to no avail, cranking down the draw distance and graphics and lowering the max amount of avatars to silly amounts with no effect. I am really at a loss. What more frustrating is that it was in internet upgrade, every other game runs better but sl became broken. I was wondering if anyone has had any simmilar issues or susgestions, Id really love to get back into sl, but i cant evengo to my normal homestead hang out or realy much of anywhere other then completely dead sims.
  12. I downloaded the Firestorm BoM version a couple weeks ago. Since I did that, SL had become VERY laggy, was freezing up, etc. I thought it was my internet connection at first. I lowered my Draw Distance to 32, put my graphics on low-med and other such things to help, however none of that helped. My FPS had went from an average of 10-15 in busy sims way down to 2-3. I suffered for 2 weeks with it then thought, hmm let me delete this version and go back to the previous one. Once I did that, everything was so much better! Sadly though I want to have the BoM version and soon it will be the version that everyone has to use. So, should I file a JIRA? Should I got to the FS support sim and ask questions? Not sure how to handle this. Has anyone else had this problem?
  13. So, here's the issue: The SL Viewer and Firestorm don't work anymore. I mean, they start, but the framerate is really low. Especially when I move the camera angle or move my avatar. Then it can reach lows of like 1 to 2 frames per second. I'm not sure what's wrong honestly, seems related to the rendering, as it is also exceptionally slow. And it would seem it's not a server or hardware issue, as the problem persists even when I change the graphics settings to low, while the frame rate is just fine even on high settings on Singularity. Any idea what I should do about this? I should add that I've been using both of the viewers currently not working, previously on this computer without these issues. I would be grateful if someone more experienced could give me some guidance on this. Thanks!
  14. Hi everyone, My PC has an Radeon Rx 480 8GB Graphics Card, an Intel i5 6500 CPU and 16GB RAM. In theory, this means that I should be able to play Second Life at a high setting, possibly even the highest settings. However, I can only use the medium setting. Anything higher or lower drops the FPS to a crawl. At medium, it stays at around 30 FPS, which isn’t ideal but it’s still playable. In empty areas, it shoots up to 100 FPS, but it is only 30 FPS in any remotely busy area. The internet I have is atrocious because I am using the university’s wi-fi, though I’m planning to get an ethernet cable. Is it possible that it is a network issue, or could it be something else? If it’s something else, how can I resolve it? Thanks for any advice.
  15. Hey, I'm not precisely sure where to put this as it's my first time posting here, but I help run a combat sim in the Second Life Military Community and lately we've been having an issue that's causing me to tear my hair out in frustration. So, to give a little background, most sims rely on passive interaction when it comes to scripts and whatnot, with RP sims, adult activity sims and such usually being functional even under comparatively heavy script lag (anywhere between 50-60% script run). Not so with combat sims, where that amount of lag causes a significantly reduced experience. Recently we've run into a problem where script run in statistics is consistently very high (around 94% on average over one minute), yet we are experiencing significant delays or simple script failures (without anything throwing an error) that we haven't had issues with previously. It's causing a LOT of scripts and devices that we rely on to not function properly. Vehicles aren't rezzing in the proper manner, contact-fuse grenades or instant trigger explosives are bouncing and hanging upon striking a solid surface or are significantly delayed in the case of manually triggered explosives rather than detonating immediately as they should, bullets are going a significant distance through walls or bouncing off solid surfaces instead of dying nearly immediately. In a competitive scenario, you can probably imagine my frustration, especially since our content creators try and stay as script-efficient as possible. We'd like to continue to provide a quality combat experience in a sim that runs well, but we simply can't do it like this. We have tried narrowing down the problem to no avail. Restarting, cleaning the sim up, checking for griefing objects through either debug panels or process of elimination has not helped. We have even contacted the chungs to request a datacenter move, which they have stated was completed as of earlier today. Nothing changed, and script run in statistics STILL reports around a 94% average over a minute with nothing much going on, which is pretty good with all the group infrastructure devices we use. Now, all this being said, something that I HAVE noticed is that other sims in the same community have not been suffering like ours has, everything still works fine in a couple others, and something I noticed was this: [22:18] Second Life: Teleport completed from NOT OUR SIM (212,149,121) [22:18] Second Life: The region you have entered is running a different simulator version. Current simulator: Second Life Server 2019-09-13T20:04:44.530946 Previous simulator: Second Life Server 2019-09-06T22:03:53.530715 [22:18] Second Life: Teleport completed from OUR SIM (245,224,41) [22:18] Second Life: The region you have entered is running a different simulator version. Current simulator: Second Life Server 2019-09-06T22:03:53.530715 Previous simulator: Second Life Server 2019-09-13T20:04:44.530946 The above is me teleporting FROM a sim that works fine TO our home sim (the defective one), then FROM our home sim TO another sim that also functions well. As you can see, the sims that are working share the same server version. To this end, I'm THINKING that it's perhaps a bad server update? So, in conclusion, my questions are: Does anyone have any idea what else we can try? Has anyone else noticed this issue? If anyone can get back to me on this, I appreciate it in advance.
  16. I have a great sim, its a biking sim, where riders seem to enjoy the sights, and love to ride. I am always looking for ways to cut back on lag, so that their rides would be more enjoyable. We have a script counter that allows 150 scripts and 5 MB usage. But it seems anytime someone enters or leaves the sim, of course the wild lag jag hits. Anytime there is over 20-30 people on it, seems the lag is incredible. We do all we can to keep up to date scripting in all things out on the sim, and good textures that are easy to load. Is there anything else we can do? Would appreciate any and all ideas, thanks in advance.....
  17. Any chance at fixing shadows? shadows can make the scene look nicer but in second life shadows feel broken in the engine with ultra preset under 10 fps turn shadows off over 40 fps computer https://valid.x86.fr/9v0vjw
  18. It's God-awful. I don't know how anyone is able to play this game. For context, my hardware is well above the "System Requirements" (which I'm sure are outdated). Here, let me save you some time: CPU: AMD FX 8350 (4.0 GHz, well above the listed "2GHz" listed on their SysReq page) GPU: AMD RX 500 Series (Which is years ahead of the ATI 5000 series, by the way) RAM: 24 GB DDR3 (No, I'm not upgrading to DDR4 anytime soon) Internet: 50Mbps Up/Down (Fiber, so symmetrical.) If I had to guess... NetCode. I ran this game at full spec, I ran this game in "Ultra Potato Mode" (literally turned all the settings to the lowest they'd go), and it STILL ran terribly, even in the "Learning World." So. Does this game require a supercomputer to run? Is their SysReq page severely outdated? Or does this game just run terribly for everyone? Additional Bonus Question: What in the heck is the "m" for in the view distance? I'm assuming Microns because even at the maximum, I could be standing right next to an object and it'd still be polygons for a few seconds.
  19. I've heard that reducing one's inventory reduces lag and the time it takes to rez in. Is that true? Would it help in rezzing in others and sims as well? Does the same hold true for eliminating outfits?
  20. Hey Guys! So I'm an old user, trying to revive my over 6 year old account on the same exact laptop it used to run so amazingly on. I've watched a few youtube videos with tricks and tips, which maybe helped about 1% or maybe that's just my optimism.. 🤷🏼‍♀️ So if anyone here knows of ways they found to work with them, pleasee share! I'm dying with all this lag, it's immense and triggering lol. I have a: Late 2011 MacBook Pro 13"/ macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6 with Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB A year or two ago, I had to wipeout my laptop and change the hard drive because it died. I did this on my own and changed my 1TB to a 2TB, since it fit and I thought things would run faster since this is my only laptop I can use. (it sucks, yes i know, macs are the last thing to use for gaming) 🙄🙃 So please, anything is HIGHLY appreciated 🙏🏼❤️✨
  21. I use Firestorm viewer. My computer runs windows 10 and has a NVIDIA processor. SL used to run very slowly and always had a lot of lag. So much lag that it was hard to steer my avatar straight. Suddenly It began to work normally, without lag every single second. This lasted less than a month. One day, my computer lost power while I was logged in, and once power was restored, SL temporarily reverted back to being very laggy, before quickly working well again. Now my computer has now lost power again, and now that power is restored, SL seems to be permanently laggy again. SOMETHING must me making SL sometimes work well and sometimes not, but I have no Idea what. Anyone have any ideas?
  22. Hello. I have been using second life viewer for years. Lately I notice that it's incredibly slow even if I use an high-end pc. In detail I can tell you that the last good viewer I used was the version "Second_Life_5_0_6_326593_i686". The next updates had as result a consistent cut off of fps ( about 3X less fps than the fps I got with the viewer version I mentioned above). I've been waiting since August 2017 for a better viewer or something that run smooth like the version Second_Life_5_0_6_326593_i686,I opened a Jira, but nothing. What is still strange is that looking in the wiki there are ways to run older versions of the viewer and I did this when the first newer versions with lower fps appeared. The result was each time I used the earlier vesion(Second_Life_5_0_6_326593_i686) my fps were raised up by 3X than the fps I get with the newer versions of the viewer. My question is. What has changed in sl since the release Second_Life_5_0_6_326593_i686? that I know by then animesh and bake on mesh were still at embryological state of projecting Is it, by chance, that newer versions support only directX12?
  23. I don't know how else to describe it beyond the title. I would go to the "HOW DOES YOUR AVATAR LOOK TODAY?" and would attempt to quote two people instead of posting one reply at a time. But it's like...After a few minutes my text cursor will JUMP across my sentence, or the middle of my paragraph and no matter what I do I cannot return it where it needs to be so I can finish my post. The only way to fix this issue (that I've discovered) is to refresh the page and if I'm lucky it won't do it again - but it usually does. Could this possibly have anything to do with my chosen theme (dark)? My adblockers are turned off and unless it's something I am unaware of... I don't know what else to try; except post here.
  24. From yesterday to today SL marketplace works slow and takes a lot of time to load, making it impossible to me for search and buy things.. im starting to feel tired of this and it seems that it still keep going slow and there's nobody willing to fix this issue why is this happening? (btw my internet always works fine)
  25. Great that the login servers are semi-stable but what's with the chat lag?
