Linden Lab likely doesn't want to be viewed as contributing to RL child pornography or abuse either, so any depictions that could be viewed by the public are also their concern. Viewing simulated behavior that is illegal or repugnant to most people won't make most people want to do that behavior in RL, but for those who are inclined to do such behaviors in RL, viewing it might encourage them. Thus LL must make it difficult for sexual AP to be seen, even if they can't stop it completely.
Agreed.
Hopefully they'll do their best, it's not an easy thing to tackle and toes will be stepped on but i think it's worth it. I forsee a lot of pushback from some communities in sl

I haven't had a chance to watch a minute of it. Just caught this on Inara Pey's indispensable blog:
Looks interesting
It'll probably be locked by page 2

Threads where anything of any substance is discussed usually are locked after 2 pages. Or earlier. Moral of the story...keep it light and stupid!

Where is this prominently displayed? I would have to actively seek out regions if I wanted to see sex and violence.
Every weekend sales event. And a lot of rp'ers who bring their rp to the stores.

On a related note, I've often wondered how rl black people feel about the raceplay sims in sl. I'm guessing not real positive but don't want to speak for anyone.

This thread makes me realize how much I miss meaningful discussions in the official forums. So many get locked 7 posts in.

As far as Women's day goes? Again, if it's mostly men in SL, maybe that's why LL doesn't bother? (sarcasm and laughter)
You could be absolutely right, and it's entirely possible that it's a conscious decision of LL to look at who the rl users are of the platform and adjusting their PR to suit them. I've kind of thought this is exactly the case. Diversity be damned.

If these people get off by seeing women being abused or by portraying being abused in SL, that's their business,...as long as their business isn't hurting Linden Lab's business.
I would imagine it is honestly. As a woman, I've thought about getting rid of my premium account a lot lately.

Possibly "empowering women in SL so they don't put up with chit"..?
I don't know honestly, I'm not an expert when it comes to making policy in online games. It's hard to avoid in sl and really kind of embedded in the culture for a lot of reasons.

How exactly does one expect to banish it from SL? People bring their RL issues and biases into SL. You can't put a blanket ban on everything anyone finds offensive or distasteful in some way.
I think acknowledging that exists in sl is a good first step. Official support from LL for women's day would be great.

It's an old trope that people who are into BDSM play must have mental problems, just as homosexuality used to be considered a mental illness by therapists and still is considered a kind of moral illness by some people coming from a religious perspective.
It's called "the cycle of abuse". It's real, it's not "an old trope". https://www.verywellmind.com/the-cycle-of-sexual-abuse-22460#:~:text=People who were sexually abused,as a cycle of abuse.
Does that account for everyone into misogyny as a kink? No. But it does for some women.

These threads are often frustrating because there is such a huge push back anytime someone says anything about misogyny in sl. Let's be real. It's everywhere in SL. It's not against the TOS. And it's not against the law. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I'm pushing the "Let people represent as they wish in SL, as long as they aren't insulting or sickening others" agenda.
Agree. Unfortunately so many female avatars are both those things to rl women.

Did you mean to say this? I know I snipped the sentence, but... what?
Many people who are abused end up with low self esteem and then continue to seek abuse

As far as the misogyny goes, women allow it and actively look for it. Sometimes, we can be our own worst enemies.
A lot of women don't like misogyny. And alot of of female avis participating in misogyny are men behind the female avatars.

Yet most users are Women (AFAIK). That does not sound very smart at all of Second Life / Linden Lab!
Most users are not women irl.

Outside of the LGBTQ+ side; SL has a very bad record on this. There's always been a very high tolerance for racism, and an even greater tolerance for misogyny.
YES! LL really supports LGBTQ events on their own official channels. Women's day was ignored.
Misogyny is rampant in SL.

I think we need to get this on the news or something to get LL to get to work. Maybe some public scandal will get them to actually act
yeah... I mean you'd think right?

It's only about self interest. Bad PR is bad for Linden Lab. Losing users or money is also bad for Linden Lab. They have to balance the potential for increased costs vs. the potential for lost revenue or a hit to their public reputation.
A well run company would have this figured out after 20 years.

I was refering to this. (below). I'm glad they're going to try something new, hopefully people will be able to speak more freely there. But I have my doubts.
