So you all think I should buy things to help the poor creators, even if I have no use for them (for bodies I don't want to own)?  Or if they contain technology, like V4 autohide, that actually makes the item unusable?  Or perhaps because they have a history of leaving their customers in the lurch, like a certain body creator?

    Not gonna happen.

If you want me to buy it (that is spend my SL allowance on it) then it has to suit me.  And that is all I said.

Back when Maitreya released the Petite add-on for 5.x I contacted several of my favorite creators. I explained that I loved their clothing creations and that since I'd made the switch to the Petite, I hoped they would start making Petite sizes as I would only be buying petite from then onward. I wasn't rude. I didn't get tough with them. I let me desires be known. I had mixed results from those messages. Many said they were on the fence about adding another size but would think about it, while some said it was already their plan to add the petite size to their products. I responded to those who replied negatively that I understood and would miss their clothing. Again, I respected their decision to do what was best for their business model.

People don't complain because they wanna go tough with someone (well most anyways). People complain to be heard. And while I can simply speak with my wallet leaving LaraX creators on the dry I can also tell them I won't buy stuff that's useless to me. What creators then do with that info is up to them. It's called customer feedback and I am yet again surprised how many SL creators are completely alien to this idea taking it for.an insult.

As a creator myself, I love feedback from my customers. Many times I am able to accommodate their desires but sometimes it's simply not within my skillset or time constraints to provide what they would like. I can't remember though the last time I had a rude response from a customer. But listening in on a variety of group chats, I am shocked at some of the comments made by some who simply have no idea what it takes to create something and have unrealistic expectations and as a consequence bad mouth creators for what I consider very poor reasons. Fortunately, I don't have to deal with these kinds of customers in my business.

  2. I don't use Genus head, but using BoM I mix tones between head and body quite often with excellent success as long as the skins are very close in tone. The trick is to use the tattoo layer for the body at the very bottom of the stack. Then layer in the tattoo layer for the head just above the body skin tattoo. And lastly, using the bom neckblend on the tattoo layer, not a universal layer, add the neckblend above the head skin. I also use a Picasso Babe skin and use the neck blend that comes with that skin. It's important to follow this order in layering skins that are not exact matches.

I would encourage everyone to rather be kind than "get tough" with the creators. cause honestly, they do not have to suit anybody. the amount of bodies and mods dropping left and right on top of arrongace and entitlement that is brought to us creators on daily bases, makes it more than hard to find the joy in creating. most creators actually use SL for their hobby, and their creative outlet.

Being supportive, encouraging and motivating to creators , does way more than "getting tough" on them.

For many daily life on its own is tough enough, there is literally no need to add "extra toughness" to it. By doing that you will mostlikely ensure to not get what you might have originally wished for. Kindness is free and a choice.

I wish I could like this comment a dozen or so times!

I dun getit. So, it's only findable at a Linden Home area? Kind of like any other premium gift but just at Belli (and hidden?)..?

Never heard of boopies before this post.

In the thread announcing the Third Trick or Treat event, you commented, "What if you don't want the Treat, is there a preferred Trick?" Well the treats in that case were all Boopies.

  5. I've been googling and so far it looks like we started using rigged mesh in standard sizes around 2012.

I've found this interesting thread in reddit about the end of standard sizing which was around 2016 here.  It's funny, one person commented that the end of standard sizing would be the end of Second Life. *chuckles to self*

Ah yes, @Rowan AmoreI do remember Liquid Mesh being the Redgrave term now that you jog my memory. I'm not quite sure why we transitioned from saying fitmesh to simply saying rigged mesh once sizes were being made for particular mesh bodies, but we did. Here is a thread from 2014 on rigged vs fitmesh.

I'm not sure, again, poor memory. But I keep thinking we had fitmesh before we had mesh bodies, and that it was the development of fitmesh that allowed the first mesh bodies to be made. But I'll have to do more research when it's not past midnight. I should have been in bed well over an hour ago.

I would appreciate someone giving me a little more education about rigged mesh. Until this discussion, I thought I understood mesh clothing well, but it's clear that I don't.

I did some testing with old standard-sized rigged mesh clothing. I did not test exhaustively but tested several selected shape sliders. It responded to the height, body thickness, shoulders, arm length, and torso length sliders, but did not respond to the body fat, torso muscles, breast size, love handles, or belly size sliders. A newer rigged mesh clothing item responded to all of these sliders.

I understand that the newer item was rigged for my specific (Lara) mesh body, but that doesn't seem relevant to which shape sliders it would respond to. I didn't try it, but I'm pretty sure that if I had tried it with a mesh garment rigged for some other body, it would have fit poorly but still responded to the shape sliders.

Are there just two kinds of rigged mesh attachments? Does one kind always respond to the same sunset of shape sliders and the other respond to a larger subset that is always the same or can there be many variations in what subset of shape sliders they respond to?

    Trying to jog my memory.

Before we had rigged mesh, or what we call rigged mesh today, we had mesh in standard sizing. It only responded to a few of the mesh sliders. We basically had five shapes/sizes that were all pretty much the same except for the large, which was more fat than large. But it was all we had until creators started experimenting with "fitmesh". I believe the first one to come out with clothing labeled as "fitmesh" was Redgrave. But that was so long ago that I would not bet on my correctness. More creators started experimenting and meeting with LL devs and what was birthed from that collaboration was the rigged mesh we have today. Rigged mesh finally gave us the freedom to be any size or shape we desired.

There are many here who I'm sure have better memories than I do and can speak with more precision. Hopefully they will jump in and do a better job than I can, but perhaps this will give a little more understanding on the subject.

  7. Pixicat is one of my favorite shops. The Alex pants are my go to dress slack:

And my all time favorite blazer is the Evelyn jacket worn with or without the turtleneck sweater.

I pair up these separates all the time with many different tops and bottoms. They are so versatile! I have the fatpack for both of these. I love them so much I'd gladly pay the full price all over again to get them in LaraX Petite!!

I understand fitmesh to mean "rigged mesh that responds to shape sliders," and I understand rigged mesh to mean rigged mesh that does not respond to shape sliders.

    Is that incorrect?

That's incorrect. They basically mean the same thing, but the term fitmesh is no longer used. It was kind of a transition term used by creators when they were figuring out how to get mesh to respond to shape sliders so it could be used for clothing. Rigged mesh means the mesh has been rigged to the bones of the avatar skeleton. That's why rigged mesh responds to the sliders. Once rigged mesh was officially adopted the term fitmesh was basically dropped and the term rigged mesh became the norm.

I hate to show up at a party and see everyone wearing the same stuff lol

I kinda feel this way too in the early stages of getting my wardrobe for LaraX Petite started, but I'm trying to find clever ways to mix things up so I don't look like everyone else.

  10. I've not bought anything for 5.3 since I first heard there was going to be a LaraX. So for me, it's LaraX and mostly PetiteX or no sale whatsoever! In fact, at this point you couldn't give me 5.3 stuff for free as I don't want to even sort the stuff. I am THAT in love with the shape of my PetiteX.

When fitmesh was released, I expected that there would be a lot of fitmesh necklaces because necklaces almost never fit well.

Avaway has an extended assortment of rigged necklaces. I have several necklaces from other creators as well. Perhaps your terminology is part of why you are having trouble finding "fitmesh" necklaces. The term fitmesh was only used during the very early stages of rigged mesh development. It's been called rigged mesh for years now.

I almost never wear any necklaces that aren't rigged mesh.

I suspect that fitmesh for necklaces and even rings or earrings for that matter, are not done too often because of the extra work it would require.

Earrings and rings are abundantly available in rigged versions. In fact, you can't wear rings unless they are rigged on any finger other than the ring finger. I use elf ears quite often and they are animated so rigged earrings are a must for me. E.Marie and Vibing oftentimes have rigged earrings and/or rings on the Saturday Sale.

    Blueberry (a tops fatpack),

This is a retexture of an older release and has had the LaraX and PetiteX sizes added. If you already own that set you can use the HUD for that shirt as well. Same goes for the fatpack of the set, which is located on the wall just below the gift. Fortunately I had the fatpack of the complete outfit, so now I have a shirt, skirt, and boots in LaraX and PetiteX sizes that work with my HUDs from the previously purchased fatpack.

I made this suggestion because back when this change occurred there was a forum post noting the change and also asked if it could be changed. It was explained then by either Quartz or Dyna that the change was necessary and could not be changed. I can't find that thread though.

I finally got round to buying this dress. What the demo didn't show was that when you buy the dress you can wear it as is, or wear it as separates. I took so long to buy because I wasn't sure I liked all the flowers at the bottom of the skirt. Now I can decide if I want flowers or not. Plus I can wear it as simply a skirt or a fur trimmed jacket. It comes with a nice HUD with lots of choices as well. I'm super glad I bought it now!

  15. I don't like shine of any kind most of the time. I always turn materials way down, or all the way to zero, on both my body and my head. That said, there are some skins that have the shine painted on and that's hard to overcome. I have made tattoo layers to counteract that shine if I really, REALLY, love a skin otherwise, but that's rare.

Now that PBR is being implemented, those painted on shadows and shine are going to be even more apparent.

  17. Quoting Onyx from Discord, "Instead of a logo you can also just write "LaraX" and "PetiteX" or "LaraX Petite" on your posters."

I've been using LaraX and PetiteX when searching the MP. But I have to say, when I've seen LX and PX on vendor covers, it just looks so very clean. I think over time it will stabilize. It's just so new, and creators are scrambling to get things released.

i had a strange observation. when i looked up LaraX from the marketplace a day or more after she came out, the items that came up were mostly from second or even third rate designers. whoever it is that's currently rigging for LaraX, they may not be using Onyx's weighting files.

Or they are so busy rigging LaraX and PetiteX content that they've just not listed things on the MP yet. I've seen lots of content from well known designers at several of the shopping events going on currently.

  20. And here in lies the dilemma. Already in this very short thread there are multiple ways people prefer to receive their packages. There is absolutely no way for merchants to win in this situation. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Personally, I almost never demo anything at the shop. I grab all the demos and run home to try things. I am one of those people who will try on clothing with other things in my inventory to see if I can use it multiple ways. I would never take up valuable space in a just opened event taking my time to demo things. So I don't care how a demo is sent to me. Doesn't matter.

On another note, I know in the past, I had issues with folders being delivered outside the region where my vendor was located. So those who were looking in from a overflow region had issues with gifts being delivered. Not sure if that would play a part, but perhaps yes. I gave up doing events some years ago so don't have that issue anymore. I'm not even sure if the problem still exists for my vendor system. But something to consider.

I own the Biker jeans as well, but I have to admit, I hardly wear the Biker now that I have the Vintage. And with Maitreya having their Black Friday Sale, I'd encourage you to at least demo the Vintage jeans to see if you might want to buy at least one pair, if not a fatpack like me.

They are Maitreya's Vintage Jeans. They come fitted for high and regular waists in all three heel heights. They are absolutely my favorite jeans. If you already own them just get your purchase redelivered. They were updated to X sizes two days ago.

  23. Okay, while this might not be completely true to the OP, it is a comparison. I've heard many saying they were concerned about being able to get the right proportions with a short avie and the LaraX. I use an avie that is quite short and Debi/Blush are rather in the mid range. Thought I'd share how it worked out for the short avie.

I've never liked my avies to look really skinny, but I don't like plump so much either. I try to keep them looking trim and somewhat athletic but not muscular.

All I could find for Maitreya was the Picasso babe line in Maitreya and they only had the 5.3 in the demos.. I got the Curvy, Slim Muse and Modelesque demos.. That shine just got a little too wild for me in the front around the hips and waist..

It felt like I had a sheer spandex body suit on.. It really stands out on darker tones, where it probably works much better for lighter tones..

Maybe it's a little different with the LaraX version which I heard is in the new pack, but until they put it in the demo I can't buy it.

I've tried using lighter tone skins and just can't do it for some reason.. Plus they really hurt my eyes when I'm working on them.. lol

I have a hard time with bright things on my screen.. my eyes get blurry.. hehehe

ETA: I forgot that I had the ITgirls Queen line in reborn also and it actually works much better than the Maitreya Queen line on the LaraX.. So I think I'm almost set now.:)

Yeah, Blush uses a darker skin than Debi and they don't work for her, but Debi uses Chantilly, which is pretty light. But I hadn't tried all the darker skins as Blush is just a medium olive shade, so was hoping they might work for you. I'm glad the reborn skin works with LaraX!

I have something sort of shaped for the new body.. My only problem right now is finding a good quality body skin that works well with it..

I tried the ones that came with it and there isn't much range for the darker tones to choose from..Those are pretty much the Venus line tones with a little bit different shine on them.. I just can't handle the absence of red blend in their darker tones in that line.. They feel more like fantasy tones than human tones..hehehe

It would be really perfect if ITgirls came out with a LaraX for their Queen line..  I tried the Lara 5.3 version on my LaraX and it looks really strange in the collar bone..Like I had handlebars inserted just under my skin.. hehehe

    The search continues!! \o/

hehehe I know there is something out there and Imma find it..:D

I'm using itGirls & VELOUR x Picasso skin. I've never looked at the itgirls Queen line, but since the Picasso line is a collaboration between itGirls and Velour perhaps the darker skins in that line might work. I much prefer the Picasso over the Venus line.
