  1. I run an AMD R9 5950X with 32GB of RAM and an RTX 3060. In all my years ive never ever had a smoother experience than i do now, even on a crowded shopping event sim.
  2. I was searching for the best word to use for this device last night as far as SL goes, and at the time of posting totally escaped me..but, it occured to me this morning...and that word is novelty. An expensive one at that. Now, the following list doesn't hit the $699 price point that the Ally is MSRP'ing for...but this machine will run SL fantasticly... AMD Ryzen 7 3700X $179.00, no need for a cooler as this chip ships with an air cooler MSI B550 A-PRO $132.00 Corsair LPX 16GIG $ 39.00 MSI RTX VENTUS 3x $ 284.00 NZXT H5 FLOW Case $ 94.00 Corsair RM750 power supply $ 99.00 Samsung 970EVO Pro Gen. 3 M.2 $ 49.99 all tolled it comes to about $882.00, you could spend a little more by upping the RAM from 16 to 32GB..this machine will run SL fantastically...its not the latest and greatest hardware, but for Second Life, you don't need the latest bleeding edge tech...but, if you wanted to price out a build, i'd suggest pcpartpicker.com. You dont need to sell a kidney and sell your soul for a 'high end gaming pc' to get good performance for SL
  3. I can appreciate the idea of portability, but Second Life is not a linear AAA game, it is a text based social network platform..yeah, you could plug in a keyboard, but in doing that, it rather negates the portability. I cant really relate on this, because i'm rather accustomed to having a desktop and dual monitors. One thing to note though, is that the Ally has been recently noted as cooking the M.2 storage...
  4. For $699, you could piece together a desktop that would run SL with decent FPS..not great, but decent
  5. I've heard of the CoolVL viewer, but I didn't know it had that functionality...i will definately have to check that out
  6. No, not really...and if there is...i've yet to find out how...because i definately would...Now, if you're one of those wiz kids that know how to overclock your cpu, that is a way to go to increase your clock speed. My CPU sits on a B550 motherboard, which has overclocking ability, but not as much as the X570 motherboard...and i'm not adventurous enough to attempt that. I'd probably break something
  7. I'm running AMD 5950X RTX 3060 32 GB of Ram similar type systems, but at the end of the day...SL doesnt really give a crap, it's CPU bound, utilizing the fastest CPU core...so core clock speed is key. I know that sounds kind of crap, but, it's what enables SL to be a platform with a wide variety of specs to its user base. Although, I personally would love to see SL move into the here and now, and be able utilize more cores on the CPU. For myself when i go into ultra on Firestorm or Blackdragon, my GPU maxes at 100, with dips into the 90's...but i think i only get a max of 20% or so on the CPU...i dont know if this gives you a new perspective, or not...but food for thought.
  8. If you're looking for smooth performance, single core clock speed is what you're looking for..as far as SL goes..GPU utilization in SL is minimal unless you're running in Ultra..as previously stated AMD GPUs work, but do not work well with OpenGL in comparison to Nvidia..SL is quite CPU bound, so clock speed is what you're looking for
  9. If you have updated your NVIDA graphics driver and are experiencing issues in SL...this is a known issue, and you will need to roll back your graphics driver to fix the problem, until NVIDIA corrects it
  10. A Ryzen 3200G is not going to get you any kind of fantastic performance. SL uses an antiquated game engine that doesn't utilize all the latest and greatest technology ie. ray tracing etc. However, if your not worried about FPS or being pretty much limited to mid graphics, than the chip should suit you well. Keep in mind though, that an APU is going to utilize your RAM, so make sure you have plenty of it. my rig: cpu: Ryzen 7 3700x ram: 16 GB of 3200 speed CL 16 gpu: EVGA 660 Ti (its old, but it gets the job done) your probably going to be getting a B450 or x470 chipset mobo
  11. Ok, to clear up some possible confusion. I've been in SL 10 plus years, and I'm well aware of the advantages of Nvidia over AMD. But to get to the point, my question was directed at VRAM on the GPU..how much is the ideal, because that will give me a better bracket of possible models, and I suppose while I'm at it, has anyone seen a difference in performance of cards with GDDR6 over GDDR5..or is it more or less negligeble
  12. What is the ideal GPU memory size for a smooth'ish SL experience What GPU do you find is ideal for SL
  13. Oh I follow that guy on YouTube already and I've seen the video. But thanks for the info, I'm currently running a 660 Ti, I think that speaks for itself. But, it hasn't died yet.
  14. This past spring I built a PC, leaving my GPU as the last item for purchase, sadly I still haven't gotten one yet. I've been thinking about forgoing a discreet GPU altogether and going with a APU. Has anyone tried the Ryzen 7 5700G with SL, does it work, what is performance like, and will it handle ultra.
  15. As a builder i must say I'm thrilled with the new maximum prim size of 64 m. as opposed to the old 10 m. maximum. Not only does this provide me with better flexibility in realizing my creations, but it for the most part completely eliminates the need for mega prims. As for mesh, ive yet to attempt anything in that realm yet. But the possibilities seem endless. I do however have a concern. As of late my avitar, and those avitars around me seem to be 'blipping' from normal to just attachements. I was begining to think that this was my PC, and not SL, but i've seen a few blog posts, and apparently this issue is not just isolated to me. So, what is the soloution to this problem...
