I am having the same issue with being unable to connect the first time on my system as well. So sadly I can't help you there.
But with voice I was having the same issue and found a band-aid fix for it. It took a week of going through their wiki, support group in sl, and finally the jira.
First install SLv2, and Firestorm. This is to make sure your problem isn't the Phoenix system. If Voice works in either of these you can simply copy and paste certain files from one folder to the other.
I had to copy the files from SLV2 and it was theses: Slvoice, Vivoxsdk.dll, ortp.dll, libsndfil-1.dll, and vivoxoal.dll.
It was trial and error I started with the Slvoice application, copy & pasted it in the phoenix folder, loaded phoenix and it told me that there was a problem with another file so every time it told me that I just copied the file and pasted. Hope that helps.
