  2. If you have been in SL any amount of time you would already begin to notice that there is a much more wide array of female clothing then male. Espically when it comes to variety. What sort of male clothing are you tired of seeing being made for males? What types of clothing do you wish there was more of for the guys?
  3. What Faye said. I think most will buy what they like. Some will not but something regardless if they like it or not if it does not show areas they'd like to see. Personally, I don't necessairly have to have the back of of an article of clothing shown in order to buy it. I think that if the back part of an article of clothing was special the designer would want to show that anyway. But like most things, to each their own. If the picture doesn't look good, or is too dark, or blurry people will pass up or at least I will. A picture has to show the clothing or item in a relatable way to consumers. Clear & good lighting, etc, or at least it is what I appreciate when I'm shopping.
  4. Try New Jessie. I haven't been there in a while, but it was always a go-to place of mine when I wanted to shoot something. :matte-motes-big-grin-evil:
  5. I agree here. Though it may make perfect sense to the creator, but that is only because they built the item. Including simple instructions would save so much headache for the user and for the creator from notecards and IMs about the same questions.
  6. If it were me, I would start with contacting the seller first. Most times sellers are more then willing to redeliver due to the marketplace not delivering items.
  7. One thing I appreciate about SL is the diversity of merchants and shops and the different styles of clothing they offer. In thinking about what people buy when it comes to clothing...whether that is looking at the "best selling" on the marketplace (though that can be faulty), reading the forums here, talking to other clothing designers, or looking at blogs it makes me wonder in general a few things. When it comes to quality, that can mean different things to everyone. Meaning one item may be of quality to one person and to another it may not be considered quality. Referring to SL clothing only: What defines quality clothing, or fashion to you? In your experience, can price sway your idea of the quality of clothing ? I guess what I am trying to say is if something is cheap, do you feel the same way about how it looks?
  8. Good question! I'm looking for just any hunt participate in (as a designer)l! *Listens* Have you Googled "second life hunts"? There is a blog, usually the first choice that lists hunts and/or upcoming ones etc. Though I am unsure of the theme of the one's they usually list. You can try there too.
  9. If you haven't already, try synchronizing it. Only other suggestion I'd have is to put in a ticket.
  10. When you go to your marketplace inventory does it show any items unavailable?
  11. Everyone really has some great suggestions! I appreciate the constructive critisism of my items/pics though I am looking for stategies to better get known..or to hear stories of how others first started out and what they did to get themselves out there. :matte-motes-asleep-2: What I use is a setting I saved as my own only for pics. It is just a brighter default setting to make the skin and clothing more true to color. I find that the default is very dull and dim. I cannot see myself using any of the other Windlight settings because most seem to not really make a crisp image and can discolor skin and clothing to other colors by what the sky is.
  12. I've been debating with myself for a while now whether to put the item price on the ad picture for my in-world store for some time now. As a shopper, I've noticed it is very split. Some stores have the prices, some do not. Most shoppers know to hover over the item, or click on it to see the price if it is not listed on the picture. While I appreciate the price being listed, it doesn't necessarily deter me from wanting to shop somewhere if they do not have the prices. How do you feel about it? As a merchant, do you list prices on your in-world ads? As a shopper, does it matter to you whether a store has the prices on items?

  14. I've been debating on using an auto greeter for my shop. One that just says welcome and maybe gives a link to join the group in chat. I don't necessairly want to use one that gives tons of pop-ups or notecards, etc because some people don't appreciate that, or it turns them off. Do you use them for your business? If so, what made you decide to use one? If you don't have them, what is your reason for not using them? How do you feel when you go places that have them?
  15. I can definitely relate to this as a new store owner in the massive SL fashion world. Its def not easy to get your name out there. I'm always ears to suggestions! Though one store that comes in my mind is called Crazy Clothes or *Crazy*. She has some lovely things and is very talented!
  16. Thank you to those who have responded. This is all some really good suggestions and advice. I'm taking it all into consideration. I'd love to hear other suggestions from seasoned/newer merchants or anyone.
  17. I've been building for a while now and earlier this year me and a good friend decided to learn to make clothing. Now, I realize it is a large market already and competition is tough. We both have a large in world store as well as a marketplaces. While we make different style clothing, in my opinion they are equally great. She has done extremely well and I'm very proud of her. I on the other hand, me not so well. I understand that one of the things that could effect selling is how you advertise your products (pictures/ads). I feel I'm pretty ok with pictures and editing within the graphics program. I find that regardless I do not really sell any clothing. The clothing I do sell is some of my earlier items (that since making other things I'm less happy about). I've turned to making templates only because I hardly sell anything else. I realize that my prices are low for the clothing I make (as well as my friends), and from reading the forums many say that customers may think your items are cheap and it may turn them away. My prices have been affordable from the beginning and I'd hope to keep them that way. I guess sort of my thought starting out was quality clothing at affordable prices. My point is not to compare me and my friends shops but to point out the similarities and then differences we have when it comes to sales. I have tried finding ways to promote, advertise/market. To list a few, I've opened smaller shops in other sims, had a few items in a fashion show, rented billboards. I have my shop listed under classifieds with many keywords. I have all my items on the Marketplace and their keywords in the ads there almost all to the max text. I always get back to customers with issues within a day. I had my partner go out and try and spread word by word-of-mouth to new potential customers by offering a gift (he said that many seemed put off by being randomly contacted). I include a LM and a thank you note in all of my bags. I've also had many items on the Marketplace listing enhancements (which did not really help). Others that I have yet to try, but know of are searching for blogs to feature items or banner ads. I've spent some time on the forums searching for ways to market before posting, but was hoping to get other suggestions. My question is what are some good advertising/marketing strategies?

  19. Thank you for replying! I tried to do that, and made a box out of 6 planes since the files don't seem to have a cube (unless I am missing something) and only used Move, Rotate, Scale Axis, Scale Radical, and Combine and it gave me the same error. Any idea what I need to do? Thanks in advance!
  20. I have Googled this issue relating to exporting sculpties to SL (.bmp file). I have ran across many solutions but none too clear on what exactly to do to to fix this. Most said that you will need the plug-in in order to export the object to SL. I downloaded the plug-ins from pkpounceworks and the Second Life (.bmp) does show up in the list to chose from for export and I placed the files in the imported_exported folder of Wings3D file on my computer. I made test bricks scaled them, duplicated the pile of bricks and then "combined" them, went to export > Second life .bmp and got the "unsupported mesh size" error. Any help with this is greatly appreciated!
  21. Thank you to all who replied. Here is the working script below (for others searching for this same thing): // Touch the object to light it up. // Lighting is configurable. integer light_s = TRUE; vector lightcolor = <1.0, 1.0, 1.0>; float intensity = 1.0; // 0-1 float radius = 10.0; // 0-10 float falloff = 0.0; // 0-1 float glow = .01; switchit() { float thisglow = 0.0; light_s = !light_s; if (light_s) { thisglow = glow; } llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast(LINK_SET, [ PRIM_POINT_LIGHT, light_s, lightcolor, intensity, radius, falloff, PRIM_FULLBRIGHT, ALL_SIDES, light_s, PRIM_GLOW, ALL_SIDES, thisglow ]); llSetColor(lightcolor, ALL_SIDES); } default { state_entry() { llSetText("",<0,0,0>,1); switchit(); } touch_start(integer total_number) { switchit(); } } any other suggestions to improve this script is appreciated!
  22. Thank you for the replies thus far. Here is the script: // Touch the object to light it up. // Lighting is configurable. integer light_s = TRUE; vector lightcolor = <1.0, 1.0, 1.0>; float intensity = 1.0; // 0-1 float radius = 10.0; // 0-10 float falloff = 0.0; // 0-1 float glow = .01; switchit() { float thisglow = 0.0; light_s = !light_s; if (light_s) { thisglow = glow; } llSetPrimitiveParams([ PRIM_POINT_LIGHT, light_s, lightcolor, intensity, radius, falloff, PRIM_FULLBRIGHT, ALL_SIDES, light_s, PRIM_GLOW, ALL_SIDES, thisglow ]); llSetColor(lightcolor, ALL_SIDES); } default { state_entry() { llSetText("",<0,0,0>,1); switchit(); } touch_start(integer total_number) { switchit(); } }
  23. I have a light script that is on/off by touch. I would like to be able to link it to another prim to have both prims light up just by clicking one prim or the other. Is this possible? Thank you in advance.
  24. I've been messing around with building for a while but it always stumps me when I look on the marketplace and see someone with their item as no copy/no mod/no trans. I am pretty sure I knew that it wasn't possibe, but why or how can people do this?
