Vivienne Daguerre replied to Hanako Alchemi's topic in Second Life Viewer

Viewer crashes after log in
Vivienne Daguerre replied to VioletPrisioner's topic in Second Life Viewer
I am having exactly the same problem. I am using an Alienware laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility 5870 graphics card. Firestorm viewer works fine, at least for now, but the SL viewer does not. -
I have uninstalled the old SL viewers, gone in and manually removed files from app data local and roaming, downloaded the lasted SL viewer and reinstalled, and set all graphics settings to the lowest of the low. I also downloaded the latest graphics driver for my card, ATI Radion Mobility 5870. Any ideas of anything else I might try? My computer is an Alienware, so there is no way it is not sufficient for SL.

How fast do you think this will come to the grid, or to closed or open beta? I can't wait to play with this! -
Error: Dae Parsing Issue - See Log For Details
Vivienne Daguerre replied to MistyWraine's topic in Mesh
Thank you! I just ran into this issue, and found my answer here without asking. I had used "&" in material names. -
I have not decided to do this for sure yet, but I am considering dividing my private island estate into parcels and selling/renting them out. I am looking for some advice about pitfalls, things to be careful about, and some must dos. I was wondering if anyone had set up a wiki page or a good blog article on this. I would also welcome any advice offered here. I have some questions. If I set parcels for sale, I still retain rights as an estate owner, correct? Would I be able to reclaim that land if the purchaser did not pay or abandoned it? Does the purchaser have to pay their tier to me through a rental box, or do the Lindens automatically deduct it from their account and pay me? If one purchaser "purchased" all of the parcels, could I end up not owning my estate anymore? I don't want to lose it! Any advice on terraforming, what to permit and if it is possible to limit how much others can terraform? Do you need a separate group for each parcel, or how do you manage groups and deeding and such? I am not new to SL and have owned this estate for a very long time, but I have not played landlord on this scale before. Thanks! I know we compete, but I have found SL residents to also be very cooperative and helpful.

The problem has resolved for me. Thanks to all who responded and were helpful. As some of you suggested, the problem was in outdated drivers. I bought my Alienware laptop from Dell, and I was going to their website for driver updates. I did update my video card bios and got a newer driver there, but that did not solve the problem. As suggested here, I went to the AMD website and looked up my ATI Mobility Radeon 5870 video card. I was able to get newer drivers. I was nervous, but installed them, and the problem was fixed. Thanks again to the very helpful people who responded here.

The answer to this problem is not to tell me that I have a bad video card or a poor machine. It is a top of the line laptop. The video card may not be as powerful as the desktop version, but it is not a poor video card. This computer is a powerhouse, and heat is not an issue. The cooling system seems to be something that Alienware has done very well. For reasons that are not relevant to this discussion, I need to be mobile and therefore need a laptop. This was the best on the market at the time I bought it. The computer can run Blender, Photoshop and ZBrush all at the same time, with no problem. Those are very demanding programs. This computer is up to the challenge of higher end games than Second Life. My video card used to be able to display shadow and light in Second Life, but they changed something in their code and broke it. The solution is for Second Life to find the problem and fix it. This definitely should be a video card supported by Second Life. I have filed a jira on it. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-28310?focusedCommentId=310067

In the SL viewer, whenever I enable lighting and shadows, I can see a white platform and black sky, and nothing else, not even my avatar. I have a top of the line, Alienware computer. Second Life 3.2.6 (248086) Jan 19 2012 13:14:05 (Second Life Release) Release Notes You are at 168,362.0, 330,191.0, 501.2 in Vosk Woods located at sim20189.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.26.203:13002) Second Life Server 12.01.24.248357 Release Notes CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz (1596.02 MHz) Memory: 6133 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit (Build 7600) Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. If a top end Alienware cannot view lighting and shadows, I would say that is a serious problem.

rigged clothes; would more Linden meshes be better?
Vivienne Daguerre replied to Tavo Vella's topic in Mesh
Actually the LIndens never promised or committed to the idea of Avatar 2 in any way whatsoever. Many residents started campaigning for them to undertake this project, but they never ever committed to it in any way. -
Smoke, you have the right to not use a mesh viewer and to limit your experience of Second Life. I will not deny you that or argue your right to do so. However, do not expect me to limit myself or my experience of Second Life to please you. I will wear mesh clothing and I don't care if you don't see me properly. I will use mesh on my sims, andI don't care if you don't see it properly. Don't ask me to feel sorry for you or cater to you. It is your CHOICE not to see mesh.

I love cats too, and nice work on that one! Don't forget to make a litter box!! People complain about cats doing nasty stuff in the kids' sandbox.

"Future of Mesh" Discussed at the SL Convention 2011 (SLCC)
Vivienne Daguerre replied to Ashasekayi Ra's topic in Mesh
I want one of those magic doors too, like the one beside the podium that opened and handed Charlar whatever he needed at that moment, and even delivered a tech to make his computer work!! I had a wicked idea to make a door that would open at random and hands would come out and slap you silly, or hand you a mug of coffee, or a boot breaks down the door and it crushes you, or.... *add your demented humour here* I think I watched far too much Bugs Bunny and Road Runner as a child... Sigh, I just put that at the bottom of my lengthy mesh to-do list -
Ceera, if people choose not to see mesh, they will not. It is not that they cannot. They choose not to. Why should we let that hold the rest of us back from using and enjoying mesh? We all have the right to make our choices, but there are consequences attached to every choice, both good and bad. Please do not tell us that the rest of us should not choose to use and enjoy mesh because some others choose not to. The minute that mesh hits the whole main grid, I will be putting my mesh out on my sims, wearing mesh, and selling mesh in my store and in the marketplace. You have the right to choose to stay away from my sims, and not to buy my stuff. I respect that.

Gorgeous!! I know some medieval and fantasy role play sims out there that would could benefit from mesh armor.

Second Life Rigged Clothing Tutorial Series (Blender)
Vivienne Daguerre replied to Ashasekayi Ra's topic in Mesh
These are fantastic tutorials Asha, and just what people needed! I learned a lot from it and hopefully rigging will be a little less painful. Thank you!
