Did you try returning items you rezzed directly on each other's parcels? This is a little obscure and depends on the details of the rental, but it's possible to set it up so tenants cannot return other tenants' items if all tenants share the same land group. (You can see why.) And that would apply whether the items are rooted on the returner's parcel or merely encroaching.

(I haven't checked to make sure encroaching item return still works, but it's certainly not your imagination: it's worked for years, although for the first few of them it didn't work for Linden plants.)

No, we didn't try returning items rezzed on the same parcel. I was demonstrating to him that your neighbor can return an item to your inventory if it is encroaching on their property, ie. tree limbs hanging over the property line.
And I actually did wonder if the set group had anything to do with it failing last night. We did not set our separate parcels to different groups.
I knew I wasn't imaging all the returns I've made on different parcels. I did a return as recent as about 6 months ago. So something had to be different.
Of course we can't return Linden property. lol Wouldn't THAT be chaos!

  2. In earlier years, it was always impossible to return a neighbor's prim that overhung your land if the root was on their land. However several years ago, I discovered it was suddenly possible.  In one of many instances, I returned a friend's tree to his inventory when some of the branches were overhanging my parcel. He said I couldn't, but I did.  I have also done so with others (for legitimate reason).
But tonight, my friend and I rented neighboring parcels and I had him place a tree near my parcel with overhanging branches - same as before - but I was NOT able to return it. He also linked two prims and kept the root on his land and I was unable to return that either.
Have I been hallucinating everytime I've done a return or did the SL programming change again?
*I returned a tree from a griefing neighbor just last year. Any insight?

  3. Interesting question from 2015.  In preferences, you can set up auto responses. So if I block someone and they try to message me, they get the message I've created.
Of course, that depends on me setting up a messaage. I've only had one person block me and I got the generic autoresponse saying I was blocked because they have it enabled. Otherwise, I'd have gotten no notification.

    Hi,

I am currently renting a full region (Estate Manager permission), onyl because it was a bit cheaper then buying from SL. Just learned the renter is known for raising the rent after 1month.

Have done quite a lot of building...so wondering if there's a way of moving the reigion 'as is' to one by SL?

(I know about the RAW for terrain. Did try soft-linking in the past and didn't work for 5k prims!).

    Thanks a lot in advance!

When you rented the sim, you did so at the "introductory" price, to get you in the door. After that, the owner will raise the rent to what it actually is. They are in the land business to make a profit, so it would make no sense for them to rent land to you for less than they owe to LL each month. It will always be cheaper to get a full estate sim from LL or have one transferred to you from another resident.
Your landlord owns the sim you're renting, so you don't have the power to take it from them unless they want to transfer it to you.

  5. I have a debate going with a friend.  What type of math is everyone doing?
As of today, L$650 = $4.19USD.  $4.19 x 52 = $217.88USD. This is what you'd be getting back by the end of the year, assuming the exchange rate doesn't change much.
But my friend is doing the math based on linden dollars, which comes out far different.

    BTW - L$2600 = $12.28USD, not $11.00.

  6. This is a weird one for me.  For the second time in the past week, I've logged on - to my homestead - and gotten the message "<avatar name>' has been added to the block list.
It's the same person both times. They have nothing on my sim. I have no idea who they are. Never met them. Is my avatar living a life of her own when I'm offline? As far as I know, no one has hacked my account. That's the only weird thing I've seen. Is there something I don't know about?  I took this person off my block list the first time it happened. But logged in today to see it happen again. Any ideas?

I had something similar happen yesterday:  I right clicked an LM and selected 'Show on Map' and it did not even open the map.  No matter how many times I tried.  For that case, a relog fixed it.  I didn't play around with other LMs or do any other research into the issue at that time. but it might be some fallout/bug resulting from the fix that they put in for the Map problems.

I put a ticket in to LL about it. It turns out, it was an inventory bug. They had me download and install the newest version of the SL Browser. Logging in, clearing the caceh and letting inventory load, ran the script that fixed the bug. Then I logged back into my Firestorm browser and everything is working fine. All landmarks are opening and the map is showing.

  8. Recently, I've noticed that I can no longer "Show on Map" for many of my landmarks. (Either my own or received from others).  Before I go places, I often like to show it on the map to see how many people are there.  But I can't anymore. Some landmarks still let me, but most don't - even ones that used to.
Also, I can't bring up About Landmark for them. The Landmark window will just say "Loading ...".
Am I the only one having this new problem?

No lie, there is a MrStarman character who created at least a hundred different alts, all with the same MrStarman name (and maybe others I never saw) who would go about spamming adult, mostly BDSM/babygirl groups, to find "girls who were submissive when younger" (or some such dreck).  Very creepy.  Once an alt, say MrStarman2glt, had been banned from enough such groups, he'd create MrStarman3glt.  I banned at least 20 of his alts.

Yep. There is a certain eccentric "artist" in SL who's been banned from all over the grid, suspended numerous times by LL and must have at least 50 alts by now.

Lindens have better ways to spend their time than by wandering through the records, looking for people with lots of alts.  Although they do say that they discourage anyone having an "army of alts," it's rare to find anyone beyond newbie age who doesn't have at least one -- often many more.  I have only four, myself, but it's not uncommon to have a small squadron, if not an army, for perfectly legitimate reasons. I use mine for various building tasks or for load testing. A photographer might want a well-controlled, properly-dressed crowd scene.

Linden Lab does take notice if you get into trouble, however.  Once you have been suspended for something, they will watch to see that you don't get around the sanction by logging in as another alt. If you get on the bad side of the Governance Team, that's when they pay attention to alts.

My sentiments exactly.  As I mentioned, I read that a long time ago (on the forum). I, personally, have lost count of how many alts I've had over the years. And they've been for totally legit reasons. I'm not a griefer or up to no-good. They have mostly been for testing as I build or set up new galleries. Whenever I need to test how another resident will interact with something, I've created an alt. Most have been deactivated.
I'm sure the staff has better things to do, but if they take notice of a certain account, they apparently make note of it.

Alts of others can't be identified without failure. If that other person says "that's my alt" or "I'm the alt of (insert name here)" then it's okay. But "doxxing" someone else as an alt (by guessing based on re-occurring spelling mistakes, writing style, or other seemingly obvious stuff) is against TOS (and/or against Community Standards, I'm not sure), and AR-able.

There is no given number to answer that. Whatever feels like "too many" for *you*, is too many for you.

I did read a long time ago, that if you get up to about 10 alts, LL takes notice as that could indicate a user is into griefing.

well i didn't exactly said it is dead..i am asking is it going to die?? i don't want this game (more than a game) to die. this is the most intelligent game ever made (my personal opinion)

Oh, the point I forgot to make was that Sansar is not a replacement for SL. It's an entirely different kind of site and experience.  Most SLers don't seem to be interested in it. I have an account there and love it but it doesn't replace SL. It doesn't work like SL.  You go there to "experience" what talented 3D creators have put together. It's awesome.
But no, it has nothing to do with SL.

  13. Hi Raa21 and welcome to SL!  Though your first social places may be inactive right now, probably due to the Halloween season, it can also be that your friends have branched out and discovered all the other places there are to discover and enjoy in SL. SL is a large place with lots to see and do.  It is not dying. I've been there for 10 years and still enjoy seeing what newcomers dream up to build and create.

Please don't leave SL thinking it's dying just because things have changed where you've been hanging out. Start to TP around and see what else is out there. People come and go, let go of land and move to another place. People also change avatars.  Your friends may have left SL - they just opened new accounts. As you become more accustomed to Second Life, you'll start to realize all of your options.
If you like, I can share with you inworld some places to visit.  Are you into art or music? Would you like to meet inworld?

  14. I have a question about two groups:
    1. I asked another user for use of of his group and he was happy to relinquish it to me because he appreciated what I would use it for. I was very grateful to him.
And I always make sure to have my alt join so I don't lose it.  However, I was delayed in using it and when I finally went to use it I found I no longer had it and another person was now using it!  How could this happen??  And she will not let it go. I feel so bad about the original owner giving it up just for it to be snatched away from me. Do we lose groups if we go back to basic temporarily? I can't see how she could have taken the group name otherwise.

    2. I want to use the name of a group for a venue that my alt used 9 years ago. I don't think she actually created a group for it back then, but I did a search and it doesn't come up as a group today. But when I try to create it, I get a message saying that it's already in use.  How can a group be in use but not showing up anywhere? Searches say it doesn't exit!  Am I going nuts?

  15. I GOT IT!  Tis fixed!  Here was my "disconnect":

I thought the "Hover Height" on the Appearance Pie Menu was the same as the Hover Height within the "Edit Shape" box. It's not.  It was the setting in my Edit Shape box that was off - set to 60.  I set it to 50 and now I'm standing on the ground (at .137) and sitting properly (only minor adjustment needed).
Finally, it all comes together! Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions. :)

  16. BTW - after all else failed, I took the suggestion that seemed to work for someone else.  I deleted my user settings in case of corruption and rebooted to create a new folder.

That didn't work. No effect at all. I still walk on the ground but sit inside of furniture.

No, my AO isn't on.  It's not that kind of "sinking".  This is literally being positioned too low for furniture. This is mind numbing. I'm totally out of ideas.
And the problem only exists with this avatar.

And I've now wiped out all my saved logins.  :::groans as she prays she wrote them all down somewhere::::

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!! thank you!! that fixed my problem!!

I had exactly the same issue, everytime I sit somewhere, no matter where it was, i was stuck into the object or ground, and when i adjusted the hover height then i was much too high. I remembered that i not always had this problem.. but a few months ago i must have adjusted my shape, and played with the slider.

Now i´ve seen that it was just a bit too high, on 57, i set it back to 50, saved my shape, got out of the ground with the standard hover height slider and tadaaa!!! every pose now fits!!

thanks a lot for your help!

Hi Susan - It's been a while, but are your hover settings still good?  I've had this hover problem for just over a year now. None of the suggestions give apply.
You said you set your "slider back to 50". What slider do you have that measures to 50?  Both my Appearance and my Preferences sliders go from -2.00 to 2.00. In order for me to stand directly on the floor or ground, they both have to be set to -0.484.  And I have to use one of the sliders to raise myself up out of furniture. This is a pain an I can't find the answer.
So, what slider did you use that goes to 50?

  18. Hello all.  It's been almost a year since I last posted this problem.  The problem still remains. I've just given up sitting on things. lol  I mostly stand around, TP around or dance. On the rare occasion that I sit, I just have to take time to use the "Adjust" menu in the furniture to get myself out of the furniture and up into the seat.

    To answer previous questions:

No, I don't use a shoe base.  I wear mesh shoes on my mesh body. No shoebase required - usually.  Even if I did wear a shoebase, it wouldn't put me meters into the air.

No, I haven't changed my avatar shape in three years (when I bought and configured my Maitreya mesh body.) This problem occurred a little over a year ago.

I tried resetting my avatar to default. When Appearance/Hover is at zero, I am hovering about a foot-height over the ground (floor, whatever, where ever. No megaprims.)

With both Prefs/ Hover and Appearance/Hover set to zero, I'm just missing the ground and when I sit, I'm levitating far above the seat - any seat.

I might not have mentioned before, that this happened suddenly and with only this avatar. I have other avatars and they are fine. They don't have this issue.

I know I have to look elsewhere for the problem, but I have no clue where else to look for the problem. Can I get Linden tech support on the phone about this, maybe?

  19. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem conn3cted at all to hover height. I keep quick prefs open so I can do a quick fix when I sit on things, dance, etc., and I only started needing to do this in the last few months. If my hover height is set to where it needs to be for standing, it's way too low when I sit on anything. If I use my hover height to fix my sit position, I'm hovering high in the air when I stand up. Somehow they have gotten out of sync. I need to figure out how to get them back in sync. This seems to be a programming error. I don't wear shoe bases.

  20. This seems to be a settings issue. Several months ago, something happened with my account to corrupt settings of some sort and I've been suffering with this problem since. When I'm standing, my hover height is adjusted so that I just touch the floor. No problem. BUT - when I sit on anything, furniture, any type of stationary or animation poseball - just sitting on anything.....my avatar winds up lower than it should be. Way lower - down inside of the furniture. We normally have to tweak our sits, but this is way beyond tweaking. I have to use my hover slider to get myself up to the correct position on a piece of furniture, or out of the floor to the right dancing height on a poseball, etc. THEN I have to re-lower my hover height to the floor when I stand up again. This isn't supposed to happen and it never has before in the almost 9 years I've been in SL. This is a new problem that I don't know how to fix since I don't know what went out of whack.

So basically, my "sit" height stopped matching my stand height.

Are there any programmers out there who've seen this before and have an idea how it can be fixed?

    Thanks in advance!

Whether you see the Stand button or not, you can still stand up.  Right click your avatar, select Stand from the context menu.

Yes, I wasn't having a problem standing. I was using the pie menu from my avatar. But that wasn't good enough. I needed to know WHY my stand button had disappeared. I'm used to clicking on it and can't stand when things just stop functioning.
