That picture doesn't look at all Mediterranean to me. It might be an American idea of a French mansion? Judging from the high peaked roof, etc.

From the example in the link it now makes me think another theme using the Fantasy builds w/different textures.

    This.

Or . . . what does one do if one isn't into RP at all?

I guess . . . not get involved? Because there's no attempt been made here to welcome anyone who isn't "on theme."

    Then it's just an aesthetic.

You're not wrong -particularly regarding the Aley run (honestly, folks could do worse so meh).

True that. And btw I have no trouble working with an assigned aesthetic for my exhibit.  Having been a community admin for subscription websites I often think beyond myself though.

But the POINT of a theme is to have all these cultures & communities take it and  apply it to THEIR aesthetic to show us what they're all about.  That point flies totally over the organizers' heads and I can't imagine why.  I suppose they were the only ones not sick of checkerboard floors after SL16B.

Anyway see you all there :)

  4. They did exactly what they should not have done if they CARED to celebrate community spirit.
It all went pear shaped starting with Crystal. Suddenly the all-inclusive conceptual themes were pushed aside in favor of specific eras or styles. No one making these decisions has really thought this through beyond the superficial.

btw don't they ask in their exhibitor application how you plan to incorporate the theme? What is Ancient Rome going to do? The Japanese or Weimar Era communities? Where do they fit in? Or Retro Modernism like Bay City?

PS: Expect a lot of the same look as people run to Aley stuff for their builds.

  5. 1. What would you like to see at this year's Second Life 19th birthday celebrations (SL19B) ?

A stage by Mikati Slade and a stage by Walton Wainwright; the Moles get to maintain the existing / rebuild the Auditorium.
Also a consolidated land mass of exhibitors & Lindens during prep; we present this event WITH them, just as we make SL a success WITH them. Only hide the LH Reveal region.

    2. What theme should it be this year ?

Something with community oriented and don't pigeonhole us into a color or material or era - or wedding tradition.

    3. Should there be a SL19B website set up ?

Yes at least a resource page with a timeline & info. And

no one should have to squeeze blood from a stone to get ahold of some logos for promotion. Let's be professional about this.

You assumed, on the word of a person that is recovering from a lethal and/or crippling disease and by her own admission is very tired, that all the information you had received in the note card from that person is correct. Based on that assumption you made an highly emotionally charged 20+ minutes long YouTube-video supporting the "allegations" made in the note card.

Is that what you got from it? hmmm.

@Qie Niangao The pods don't perceptibly impact regions. Also the value of making connections to other pod routes at places or catching the next one after a bad region crash have proven valuable. That doesn't even factor in when people are curious and hop on. They take two passengers, so we're happy when an empty one comes along; earlier this week in Satori we had to wait for another going our way. Spent time checking something out nearby that we noticed from a previous pod ride.

btw this afternoon someone hopped onto my railcar for a bit.

If anyone tells you that nobody uses them... people use them. It's just not rush hour traffic.  tbh I used to hoverboard the routes often about 8 years ago, but people come and go from mainland, and those several friends I traveled for a visit just arent around.

    It was a ticket.

Indeed. It is a different topic than getting the pods back though. Maybe we should take one thing at a time. Besides, this is Yavanna's call, we can come up with wishes and suggestions but she decides.

I'm sure they will. At least Yavanna and whichever SuperLinden who is assigned to the case will.

The pods ARE running. Just on rez and sit at stations. I broke down the instant loss we've experienced, with her three ferry service routes to follow.

Huh? This is nonsense. I have occupied a house on the Mainland that fronts on a Linden road since 2009, and I have seldom seen one. They hardly "dominate all sims and all roads."

I "live and work on the Mainland," since 2007, and I've never had a problem with them.

A decade ago those awful Otooles dominated the routes, and I truly mean dominated. They shoved riders off roads and into banlines. They shot at people (one of them was a tank). They could be noisy (an ice cream truck). They lumbered around the roads like a drunk uncle. And there would sometimes be more than one within view along a region (drove my friend bonkers; he owned half a region with protected road going thru and there would be a veritable parade of the things). AND they each had 18-20 scripts in them, sucking the resources out of the region. Also they hawked product.

Compare that with a small phantom pod, neatly riding along the road, barely a blip on the server, offering interesting anecdotes, adapting to the route & serving so many residents. The only place you'll find hawking product is *on* Yavanna's parcels in West Satori & the Snowlands.

That's a brilliant idea. It should also be possible to add rezzers to all the existing stations on private land.

    ---

But those pods on a regular schedule have - or at least had - another function too, one we hardly ever think about. I mentioned all pods report any problem spots they come across back to the server so they can be programmed into next day's pods. Yavanna also used to report any serious problems to LDPW, giving them constant updates on the condition of the Linden road system. I don't know if she still does. It was Michael who handled those report and the communication may ahve broken down when he left. If that's the case, maybe it's time to reestablish the contact.

LDPW doesn't have ticketing but land issues have a ticketing system. Or maybe it was an AR?

As for rez-only option, pod users are finding this to be a challenge right now.

    1. First, many touring ones are long range and leaving off, either at a place of interest or a landmarked location to continue is no longer possible.
    a. A pod would wait until, for instance, 20 and 50 past the hour at a mole island pier while you explored. Now it disappears when you get out and there is no 'next pod' to resume the tour.
    b. Some full length tours take several hours, with a few traversing over more than one continent. My friend and I did the massive Heterocera Atoll  over the course of 4 evenings. It starts and ends in the Sansara Snowlands. When you hit a bad region crossing, there is no 'next pod' to resume the tour.
    c. There's the issue with one of two riders crashing. The pod continues but the returning traveller cannot sit. Again they cannot wait for a 'next pod' to resume together.

    One crashed, the other didn't

    3. Many pods rendezvous with other pods at intersections during their long journeys. We can no longer make those connections.

Hope Patch & Yavanna get to chat.

  10. There are a GREAT number of residents who explore mainland via the pods.

The thing is they've evolved into an elaborate network, and avid riders have enjoyed making connections to visit other areas by meeting up with other pods.  Or they left you at an island or area of interest where in 20-30 minutes you could continue your journey with the next scheduled pod. Now this won't be possible.

Also if there is a bad region crossing there isn't another pod to follow. Once there is a crash you're done.

  11. I was blocked on 3 sides in a marina there.

Also not an hour ago I was flying east from an undeveloped SSP sim into a region over homes. I was suddenly bounced WEST to a far sim on the continent! Didn't know an orb could do that but it sure didn't give me the 2 seconds or less needed to pass their stupid property.  Hoping the orbs are set with a minimum of time.  What would be best is if they were set only to warn if the user lingers over the property beyond 3-4 seconds.  That should certainly cover avatar or vehicles flying overhead or cutting a corner.

  12. I cannot find anything like this on the marketplace with any applicable key words.

I know a couple of places in SL which use such a script but the creator moved all their scripts to the marketplace, the marketplace changed, and there's nothing from them. I reckon they haven't been back to SL for a very long time.

    This is what it does:

Put objects (copiable virtual drink items) and script into prim.
When the prim is clicked, the person selects a drink. The script sends one to everyone with a message of whom it is from. I'll assume it's sending to everyone within a radius on a parcel? Couldn't say.

I'd like something like that for a place of mine. Not looking to profit from its use, just a casual hangout.

    Thanks for any leads.

  13. Thanks Chic.

Never would have thought about Corel. I'll check it out.

Moviola is what film editors used before video. Depending on the model you can run multiple strips of film and multiple strips of soundtrack. You'd make notes on the exact frames to cut and splice together for either type.

I'm very oldschool. I majored in character animation in the 70s and experimented with super8mm and 16mm film.

  14. I have an old PC with VISTA, 32bit 4gb RAM, can get away with software requiring 3ghz.

I'm not here though to be critiqued over my hardware :) but to give some background and look for advice on an ideal video editor as Windows Movie Maker falls far short of my needs.  I have FRAPS and I filmed about 80 clips from which maybe half will be used for a machinima.

Looking at what's out there ACS4you seems to be easy to handle and not such a resource hog. Also seems to save in higher quality without jumping through too many hoops.

    What I'm looking for is:

    1. something which easily allows one to copy or cut film from the timeline place it

    2. something which works like a moviola in which I can see multiple clips and intercut them (for instance 2 clips with the same animation and there's no interruption to the movement).

Oh and cheap. Not looking to spend hundreds of dollars. I got ahold of an older Adobe Premiere but it's too heavy handed and generated errors during export.

    Thanks for your suggestions
