  1. I guess the subject says it all... I have made sure that the AO is turned off. The selection beam still works, but it flows from her left hand right into her hip. Anyone know of a fix for this? I'm using Firestorm.
  2. Hi! I found your question because my avatar has stopped pointing at objects during building or editing, and I want her to start again! Do you have any idea how you did that in the first place?
  3. I've been to the Particle Laboratory many times; I love it. Jopsy has helped a lot of us out by being so generous with his/her work. The emitter is gone this morning (yay!). I suspect that the owner could have had what he wanted if he'd given his particles less velocity and a shorter lifetime, and placed his emitter farther away from the edge of his very large parcel. Like I said, it was actually kind of pretty, but not useful on my plot. Thanks for the comments, all.
  4. An, thanks Perrie for explaining. No, no spoof here. Just zillions of large snowflakes. I wonder why particles can't be kept out the way other peoples' objects can. Well, no use speculating. I guess I'll just keep up the abuse reports! Thanks for the responses, all!
  5. A neighbor of mine has set up a snowflake generator that is blitzing my nearby parcels with huge snowflakes. They're actually kind of pretty, but they're eating up my particle allowance, and they're distracting. (I teach on my parcel and my students are distractible enough, thanks!) I filed an abuse report, and I got an acknowledgement, but of course they never tell you if they decided to just drop it, or if they took steps but the miscreant just so far has refused to cooperate. I have no idea if I should just be patient, or if I should just file another report daily until the problem stops. What would you do?
  6. Oh, good! I thought I had done something wrong with the translator that I'd been using for only a few days. Now I'm not getting that message, but my translator still works. Hooray! Thanks for the answer, Rolig.
  7. Forcing updates for any current viewer is making my life difficult. I use SL in teaching, including homework and exams. It frosts me when my students log in on my lab computers to take an exam, try to open SL only to be informed that they can't until they update. However, since they are lab computers, the students don't have admin privileges. So, I get to postpone the exam for a day and spend a few hours updating each computer. Not to mention the other computer labs around here; I have to apply through channels to get them updated, and they normally only grant one request per 10-week quarter. Upshot: using SL in a university/corporate setting becomes very frustrating.
  8. Nalates Urriah wrote: ATI Cards have some problems. It is very important that you are using the right version video driver, not just the latest. The story around the forum is in some cases the newest driver creates more problems than an older one. There are ATI and OpenGL problems on the Mac side. Search the forum for Mac and ATI to find more information on the problems. On my nVidia card I had a number of problems with 2.6.3 versions. I have since been using the development viewers in the 2.6.8 range and having way less problems. Thanks, Nalates. I didn't know that drivers could be stepped back, but I'll check it out. I appreciate your help!
  9. Cerise Sorbet wrote: Hi, funny triangles plus an ATI card could be the old VBO problem. On your SL preferences, graphics tab, press the Hardware button and turn off Vertex Buffer Objects. This problem appears to be mostly fixed on newer viewers with recent ATI drivers, but if you have an older OS X you could have some legacy bugs (but it lookslike you could be running Lion? Nope, misread that's the Darwin version.). Thanks. I have turned off VBO, and hope that will take care of it. **fingers crossed** My OS is the most up-to-date one that ordinary mortals can get. I appreciate your reply!
  10. I've been running SL on my 2006 Core 2 Duo Mac Book Pro for years now, but this last update has me crashing hard within a few minutes every time. I have to reboot the computer to get out of it. I'm curious if this is connected to graphics artifacts that usually precede the crash; my scripted hair (all from one creator, and I can't mod it to turn off the script) suddenly generates triangular patches of gray and black. Sometimes there are so many of these that that they completely obscure the screen, and sometimes they just look like some bizarre Las Vegas head-dress. They stay or they flicker and go away, but the crash happens fairly soon after that. Anyone have any idea what's going on? 11. Phoenix is a pretty good viewer, but it has the old Viewer 1 look, with the pie-menus etc. I am so used to the way V2 works that I find Phoenix annoying. (Although the double-click teleport is fantastic.) I like being able to put web pages on prims for my students that they can use interactively, and I think the Phoenix won't do that.
  12. Wow, you're not kidding about the local lights! Had I known I was going to lose them, I wouldn't have installed 2.3; I'm not very excited about display names. Waah!
