  1. What is the criteria base for having an event appear in the featured section on the search hompage? I know the results are "random" but some sims randomly appear with regularity and many more are consistently excluded. Anyone have any idea?
  2. Fiona, No doubt the undertaking of converting to 250+ items to direct delivery is a chore, however future inventory management will be a breeze. Ever had to update an LM in all of those boxes becuase you moved your store location? The old process of rez, copy in the LM, take box back to inventory, delete previous box, copy to magic box, snyc magic box etc... was frankly a royal a pain. If i had a Linden$ for ever MP delivery that has an outdated LM in it I could rent a full sim for a year. Once you convert to diect delivery, you'll like it and your customers will like it. ~ Sassy
  3. Killie, I think you're already off to a great start on your marketing. I have a ton of tips and things to consider in my marketing blog (instead of posting them all here): http://secondmarketing.wordpress.com As for groups, try Fabulously Free in SL (FabFree). If you have loss leader item (freebie, dollarbie, under 10L) you can promote the item in thier group notices if you have a Fab Desginer tag. The group is over 20K in size. Contact the group officers for merchant details and rules. Hope this helps. Sassy
  4. bumping -- still looking for clues on event listings
  5. My guess for STEAM, having looked at the stats and top 100 titles: 1/8 of 1% per total active STEAM users at any given moment, or roughly 500 users. Without knowing how many hours per day the average user spends per title on Steam and how many days per week they play, I'll take a stab at: 6,000 unique users per day from STEAM. I'd guess less that 7% will become premium members. I think that because they are "gamers" they will be more likely to purchase Linden Dollars to have a better Avatar, and that, at the end of the day will be good for the community.
  6. I've been doing a substantial amount of testing with the event system over the past month for my Marketing Blog. As expected, its not a simple plug and play promotional tool and there is very little data on how to do more than list and event and hope for the best. Perhaps a few of you might know the specifics to questions I could not find the answers to. IN THE SL VIEWER Having your event appear on the Search Hompage: There seems to be no definitive criteria for having your event appear in the display area of the Seach homepage. In the evenings (7pm SLT or later) all featured events appear to have at least 10 avatars in attendance or more. During the day i've TP'd to events that were emtpy, but had substantial SIM traffic ratings over 54,000, though in the eveing featured events had SIM traffic ratings as low as 1500. 1) Are featured events on the search page ALWAYS active, ongoing events (ie: past the start time and before the end)? 2) What is the criteria to end up on the random features? Traffic? Live bodies? Other? 3) Does the featured criteria care whether you are on a SIM or homestead? Event Search Results (view all): The verbage on the default "view all events" of "happening now" search filter is deceptive, as it does not show those that are actually happening but those about to start. To see events that are actually underway and ongoing you have to uncheck the default option of "happening now" to see the option for "ongoing" events that are underway and actually "happening now". The verbage "happening now" should be corrected to by LL to say "upcoming events" and the "ongoing" option should be visible at all times without having to uncheck "happening now" Does anyone else find these descriptions/filters confusing? SECONDLIFE WEBSITE - Events Section If you read the wiki about the website listing for managing events, it states that the website does not show adult events. You can however see your OWN adult events in the listings -- as this is the only way you can access the event to edit or delete. The wiki should state that clearly. THE CONUNDRUM: The lack of clarity in the event system makes it extremely difficult to use it as an effective marketing tool for the following reasons: 1) Your event only appears in the featured section if you have bodies present. While this wonderful piece of criteria can help your event grow larger, it is of no use to users actually trying to build a visitor base. In my tests even having 9 bodies at an event during the 7pm hour was not enough to have it appear in the featured. 2) The "happening now" faux paux seems to be the twist in the back of those trying to break into hosting events -- as by DEFAULT, if you don't have bodies at your event already (before the start time) your event won't be seen on the featured section of the search page. Furthermore you have no hope of attracting bodies after the start because the event listing disappears the minute it begins and the promotion is given to up coming events. Before I post my blog assessing the epic failness of this system for new marketers, are my findings correct or are my summary and findings wrong?
  7. /me dances with Dora. After hours and hours of wrestling with that it worked! TY! llSetVehicleRotationParam( VEHICLE_REFERENCE_FRAME, <0.00002, 0.68182, 0.0, -0.73152> ); Fixed everything. Had the sit targets. NOTE to anyone else using it,,, the sit target gives "<-0.18048, -0.01340, -0.36460>, <0.00002, 0.68182, 0.00001, -0.73152>" Only use the second set. Done. Working. Happy! Sending one your way Dora as soon as I finsh the rest of my textures TY! TY! TY!
  8. I've been struggling with trying to use a basic boat script in a sculpted object. As soon as my watercraft moves it tilts to the default postion of the sculpt -- not the rotated position that looks correct. I changed the values in llSetVehicleRotationParam - which postion the boat properly, but screws up direction the boat heads with the directional keys. Anyone have a simple boat script (no sounds or bells and whisltes needed) just one that can be used in a basic sculpt that gets from a to b wihout trying to drown the rider? :)
  9. I've checked it both Safari and Firefox on Mac. Same issues. Thanks for confirming the issue cross platform and for the input. /me shouts "YAY" @ Sassy R!
  10. The ratings stars on a number of my products have disappear -- including those on my top selling product. It's an adult store (warning) https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/39105 The stars appear empty and never were before -- and 2 reviews that show stars in the review are not even showing/averaging. Anyone else notice the disappearance or glitch?
  11. Those look good. Hands might be a bit small... proportionately, the hand should be about the size of your face.
  12. I'm sure it bothers me more than most but I spent too many hours in figure drawing classes having proper proportions beat into my head. If you look around SL, soooo many avatars suffer from short arm syndrome -- which is silly becuase it's the easiest proportion to get right: "Your wrist should be even with the bottom of your crotch." There. All done. Always perfect. Now a lot of your aminations will suddenly look better and your hands won't disappear in your hips. Men -- it's the same proportionately for you.
  13. I ran into a few products like this where I assumed the creator was victim of copy-botting. In one case the creator had sold full perm rights to another marketer, in the other the creator was marketing the same product under a differnt brand at a cheaper price -- as a market price study. My suggestion, contact who you think the original owner is and let them sort it out before making a public accusation. If it is thier product being copied, they will take the steps to have it dealt with.
  14. How do Classified Ads work? Are they worth it? Classifieds can be pricey for the number of visitors they generate. Events are the way to go if you are willing create an event that is enticing enough to draw a visitor (see events reply below). Second how does the Search Function work? Is there a way to make it so people can "Search" for our Group/Land and Teleport there? When it comes to the search, think in terms of SEO (search engine optimization) for your parcel/land. The search catalogs more than the parcel description and includes items on the land. Most builders ignore naming all objects while building. Be sure to name those "objects" with keywords to help improve your search rankings. I'll take the time here to plug a very useful product made by a frequent voice on the forums, Darrius Gothly: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/SEO-Research-Analysis-Package-SRAP-HUD-Tools-to-Optimize-Your-Rank-in-Search/1271231 He could answer more specifics about improving your search results better than anyone here. Do you guys have your stuff listed on secondlife.com/destinations ? Already addressed by replies, just keep at it and focus on making sure your destination has something special to set it above the rest. Keep in mind, every merchant has a "destination" in SL and the guide should address those that are a cut above and represent the best of the best on the grid. What kind of incentives can we give to get customer feedback? Like giving them small amounts of $L for filling out a survey or maybe a promo or Coupon for an item in the store? We are also trying to hold a surf contest event. What are some good ways to promote it? So far no one has signed up... Promotions can be very successful in SL as long as you can promote them well through events, blogs and groups. As a beach oriented sim, I'm sure you have a plethora of options; from surf contests (be sure to offer a freebie starter board), bikini contests, and even retro beach parties like the old "bikini beach" movies. Just be creative and promote it. I address most of these topics in my SL marketing blog at: http://secondmarketing.wordpress.com/ Lastly, I use Phoenix Viewer and when I open it they display "What's Hot" "Destinations" and "Events" how do we go about having our stuff listed here? All part of the SL listings discussed, just another area it is displayed. As for viewers, I think it's important for all merchants to use and understand how each viewer displays those items to use them to their fullest. While the SL viewer main screen does a fantastic job at branding these promotions, the 3rd party viewers tuck them neatly away and they loose impact. Be sure to use them all and understand the differences. Hope this helps.
  15. It seems to me that LL could resolve this easily by getting ASCAP/BMI municipal licences that covers all broadcast use within the "community".
  16. Were you looking for a combination of design, brand building advice and a marketing plan? I may be able to help.
  17. I've found this to be a horrible issue on my Mac and it's not viewer specific. Both web-based search and profiles rarely load, hang up on refresh and lockup/crash: SL Viewer 3 SL Viewer 3 Beta SL Development Exodus Beta Firestorm (latest release) The longer I'm logged in the less chance i have of either actually loading. If I do a search immediately after login, and allow it to cache and just minimize, i can use search again (sometimes). As for profiles, it's truly useless, especially on a busy SIM. Requesting a profile that can take up to 5 mins to load (or maybe never load) it's just flusterating. Any other mac users having issues with these web-based features loading?
  18. Looking for a talented RLV scripter for multiple projects. Pay varies per script. Drop me an IM or notecard inworld to discuss. Ty!
  19. While shopping in the marketplace over the weekend, I noticed the resuts we less relevant to keywords than they had been in previous weeks. I also noticed resuls favoring high priced items, vendors with very early join dates -- and ratings and reviews completely out the window. I went and tested my own products and their postion had dropped drastically. Vendors with 2007 Join dated clearly dominated the top 10. Also -- what's with the price effect on results? A chunk of super high priced items, then freebies, then the rest of us? If this was the fix for the "freebie" complaint it's far worse. Especially for any new creators with a 2010 or later join date -- why even bother getting in the game? Please roll back this "fix".
  20. Josh, While the relevancy is lower the keywords do count and I think you can expand beyond one word to valid words that would prevent being flagged. Not sure how you got flagged so fast since so many people out there are stretching the boundaries on keyword relevancy to their products. The point of doing is simply to make sure your products are not lost when users don't your the primary keyword you selected.
  21. The SL Marketplace is an investment company. You have an opportunity to bring your products to market at no cost -- then you can use your marketplace dollars to invest in your own in world opportunities. If you cannot afford various elements for your creations then collaborate. There are a lot of skilled creators willing to participate in good ideas.
  22. That is perhaps the most poorly written B2B recruitment letter I have ever read. While LL does not pay for development of the GRID, the ability to profit in world is driven by an entrepreneurial sprit and sweat equity. Painting those individuals as a mindless free-labor pool spits in the face of the case they are trying to build. Maybe they used "free labor" to write their direct marketing.
  23. Josh, I think you are confused on keyword vs title. I checked one of your products, and while you had a ton of descriptions in the page title (currently very low relevance in the SLM SEO if at at), the only KEYWORD you had was "cave". Check your keywords, and move the terms from title to the keywords field. YOUR CAVE PRODUCT: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/3D-one-prim-cave-20-rough-hollowed-spheroid-with-continuous-stone-texture-inside-and-out/1262350 This should make a drastic difference after you update it and it cycles. ~ Sassy
  24. I have successfully used freebies and loss leaders in-world and on SLM (and xstreet). The primary thing to consider is whether the freebie is a marketing tool, or is your product competing against something with a $0 price point. As far as search result competition, broad topic searches display more high-volume freebie sale items than specific searches. For example, blouse vs corset. Blouse results in a number of freebies, yet corset shows far less. Thankfully, internet-wide trends show Internet users using more complex searches -- averaging 4 terms per search. If the marketplace is even half that (at two terms) even less freebies show up. I think the advantage of reviews adding to a higher score keep low-quality freebies out of the mix -- allowing creators to use quality freebies as a marketing tool and allowing it to rise above the junk.
  25. Toy, Thanks for the clarification, you are correct the cost is fixed and there are some merchants who may not need anymore than a store on the SLM. There will always be those who will need the store no matter how well SLM performs. I think the same rules apply to the SLM that apply to "cart" shoppers on the internet. While you may buy cloths on the internet on a regular basis, you might want to sit on a couch before you buy it etc... in those cases, search on SLM and make the final purchasing decision in world could likely become the standard shopping experience. It all comes down to knowing your customer and their habits. @ Darius: yus! it's all about the hair
